This is it. The ultimate in breakfast food (and not a bad showing with lunch and dinner). For 23 years, I've visited LBI at least once a year and it's a crime i didn't discover this place until about 7 years ago. Right to the point... Best pancakes in the world: Blueberry-Walnut -- For breakfast, lunch and/or dinner..or even post-bar hop (even though that's a fairly limited activity down in Beach Haven). To this day, I've yet to find a pancake that comes close -- The pancake house further up the island is a good alternative, or even the the place next to the red chair (I cant remember the name!!) off the boulevard. If you aren't into pancakes, I would also try the buffalo chicken anything...salad, wrap, sandwich. They also do a good clam chowder. The only thing i didn't like was the chicken cheese steak -- bad news. Everything else is a go.

Anyone who complains about Chegg has not had enough to drink. This Beach Haven dive is a must after going to the bars, but be prepared to wait- even for their late night. As soon as the Boathouse, Marlin, and Shell close everyone makes their way over to Chegg. While their food is deserving of 1..maybe 2 stars its the "chegg experience" that earns it 4!

As other posters mentioned, there always seemed to be a line. But with food as good as this, it's worth waiting for. Their California Turkey Burger is amazing, and the chocolate shake was great--definitely worth breaking my diet for. Plus they have RC Cola! and Diet Rite! Who says the 70s died? My husband got one of their buffalized items, and said it wasn't as hot as he thought it would be (12 on a scale of 15--and he thought it should be a 4), so if you're a really hard-core spice-aholic, you may need to look further. On the other hand, they have a reproduction of The Persistence of Memory by Dali with fried eggs replacing the melted clocks, which is awesome drunk or sober. We also really enjoyed reading the replica newspaper ads on the table top--especially the one for whiskey "endorsed by doctors."

The other reviewers are entirely correct to indicate that the food at this establishment is best enjoyed while either drunk or hungover. But don't take it as a rub, take it as a compliment. There is no other place I would rather eat than here after a long night of partying in LBI. The real draw are the build-your-own omelettes and pancakes. There are a wide variety of ingredients made available for both, which results in some great combinations when you're under the influence. Other times, it is a bit too much to handle and you end up with an abomination on your plate. Still, its worth the risk. I mean, how can you argue with banana-chocolate chip-peanut butter pancakes? If Elvis were alive today, you know he'd be at the Chicken or the Egg ordering that breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I visited The Chegg this summer. in the sleepy end of southern LBI, not only was it the only place open but it a velvet rope and a waiting line out of the front door, spilling into the street. hostesses screaming names over a bullhorn and drunken frat boys aside ,this is easily the most fun late night place in LBI foodwise... that puts it on an extremely short list. Seeing how i'm writing a review about the restaurant it'd be good if I mentioned the food. It's fantastic. I certainly don't remember what I had, all I know it was excellent. I can't recommend this place enough though. oh and the music was killer, especially if you're into pop punk and anthemic 70's rock. Cheap Trick at the Chicken or the Egg. Fuckin' A.

Ah, what can I say about CHEG that hasn't been said before--AMAZING! Definitely a good late-night spot or a hangout for a quick lunch. Pretty much anything on their menu is good, especially their wings. Be careful, the rumors are true--that hot sauce is pretty damn hot.

My second choice for breakfast if I can't get into Uncle Wills. Friendly, good service, good with babies and kids and good solid breakfast.

I can write a lot about 'The Chegg,' but I think it's most informative for me to tell you right off the bat that my friends and I went here six times in the course of a single week on the island. Let's take it one meal at a time, shall we? Wings and other 'buffalized' dishes: The Chegg has a full array of fifteen buffalo sauces, some of which are traditional, some of which are unique, and one of which is truly and utterly insane. If you like the feeling of being pepper sprayed, go ahead and order just one of the ludicrous wings. Otherwise, I really recommend the Jamaican Jerk or the Killer Beesting (or regular Beesting if you're not big into spicy). No matter what sauce you order, you just really have to get wings -- or any item on the menu 'buffalized' for $0.99 with your choice of sauce. Oh, and a side note -- personally, I think the naked (non-breaded) wings are a much better fit for these particularly delicious sauces, but really it's a personal choice. Breakfast: Yes, you can get a buffalo chicken omelet. Ask for it with onions and peppers. If you're looking for something more traditional, however, you can't go wrong with the pancakes, waffles, or other egg offerings. But seriously, if this is your only chance to try the wing sauce, don't be afraid. Lunch: Obviously, start with wings. From there, it's really up to you. It would be difficult to find something subpar on the menu here on most days. The standard fare is probably your best bet -- burgers, wraps, etc. are pretty consistently good. Dinner: More or less the same as lunch. If I'm being honest, I'd skip the Chegg at dinner time and go get some pizza or something. Not that the food won't be good at the Chegg... it's just... something seems weird about having dinner here. After the bars close: Yes, there will be a wait to get into the Chegg at 3AM. Yes, it will be so, so worth it. There's an entire menu of specials JUST for the late-nighters. This menu happens to include what I think is the best thing served here aside from wings: Stoner Cakes. Bananas, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, granola. Pancakes. WIth a side of wings. Awesome. Along with a few other select spots, this place is a big reason why we always pick a place to rent for the week somewhere between Pearl St. and 12th in Beach Haven over the summer. Come here enough (or just come here once after 2AM) and you'll develop a deep-rooted love. I promise.

Over rated. Wings are pretty descent. Wing night is a rip off. Breakfast is pretty good. Also, it gives you the shits everytime.

I think my review is pretty much just going to confirm what everyone else has said here; this place f****** rocks. If you vacation on LBI and you don't go here, you're doing something wrong. Just don't expect to eat healthy. My recommendation for wing sauce selection: Santos. Babrbecue-y and sweet but not too much with an awesome kick that can only be cooled down by some blue cheese sauce. Rockin.

Lucky enough to live at the Shore...I come here all the time and have been for over 16 years. Well worth a long wait, there's a reason its a busy place.

Bottom Line: This is a can't miss if you are on or anywhere near LBI, and have that hankering for fried chicken (or anything fried for that matter). The dude / chick who runs the fryer ought to give classes in "Mastering the Fryer 101". It's that good. It's open 24 hours, so good luck expecting to arrive and sit. You will wait...and it will be worth it. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, casual, unusually roomy for a dinery kind of place. Staff is friendly and has it together. Go there now...and bring snacks for the kids while you wait for a table. This Chicken lays golden eggs. Highlights: The chicken is perfectly cooked and simply seasoned; crunchy crispy, without being greasy. The waffles had that classic malty sweetness that's missing from so many so-called breakfast places. Inexpensive, like $10 a head. Lowlights: Fountain soda tastes funky, like the funky LBI water. Blechhh...I hate LBI water. Filter that sh*t. The "Sweet Tea" is just too damn sweet. Like dessert sweet. I don't want dessert with my chicken. I need something to cleanse my palate (yes, I know...I ordered *sweet* tea). Onion soup was tasty, with what appeared to be a light chicken stock base, but the cheese top, while broiled to perfection under the Salamander, was a little out of character. Onion soup should have a nice Gruyere-style bubbly crust. Joe's Blow by Blow: This is a can't miss diner - style restaurant just south of "Fantasy Island" in Beach Haven on LBI. Open 24 hours, breakfast anytime. I'm embarrassed to say that despite having a shore house in LBI for over 40 years now and suffering through every crappy fly by night eating establishment on (and off) the island, that this is the first time we ventured into the "Chegg". Something about their menu as published in the "Beachcomber", "Islander", and other local summer papers (kind of goofy and packed with too many items to read) that never appealed to me. Holy crap, what a dope I am. When I think of all the times I've craved fried chicken and opted for, yeah, I admit it...K...F...C, I am left feeling the brunt of a very painful and intentionally self-inflicted head wound. What was I thinking? The Chicken or The Egg, open 24 hours, with a menu that makes choosing nearly impossible. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, late night. Pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, and oh, that delicious chicken. I have admittedly searched hard and traveled long distances for a perfectly cooked, crispy, golden and juicy fried chicken. Glad we finally made it here. The Chicken or the Egg will undoubtedly be my "go to" eatery when I'm down the shore. Looking forward to exploring the menu a little deeper next time.

First of all, it's the Chegg. Second of all, this isn't just your standard 24 hour Jersey diner...it's so much more than that. I used to only come here past the hours of midnight, usually after I finished up working in Barnegat Light. The Chegg is quite the hike from the northern end of the island, but it is absolutely worth it. I now will allow myself to wait in the ridiculous lines in the morning to cure a hangover with a Goshdarnwich, the most delicious sandwich on the planet. Sadly, during the off-season it's only open on the weekends during restricted hours, but the 24 hours in the summer definitely makes up for it. Plain and simple, if you're on the island and don't make it to the Chegg, you're missing out on something very special. Everything is good. But it definitely tastes better at 2 a.m.

The Chicken or the Egg After hearing quite a bit of feedback about this restaurant, I thought I should give it a shot. Anyone who says they have something so hot it's "Ludicrous", I have to try. Long Beach Island, NJ is about 20 steps up from Seaside Heights NJ where I am used to hanging out. It's clean, organized and it looks like almost everyone is vacationing. Unlike Seaside Heights, where the police drink on duty and almost everyone looks like a user or is living on the street. The restaurant is on the main street in LBI with a very inviting façade. Once inside, it's organized well and we were seated right away. Everyone is very friendly, including our waiter who came right over to take our drink order and answer any questions. Our order in, it's not but a few minutes before we receive our appetizers. A pot of French Onion soup and fried broccoli. The soup is covered with cheese and had croutons floating under it. It is a sweet blend of onion, something I am not used to. But it was very good and the cheese was melted perfectly. The fried broccoli was just right too. A thin batter, with the broccoli just soft enough to enjoy without the crunch. Just before I was done with my soup my Chicken Wings (fingers) appear. I ordered the Chicken Fingers due to the fact when you are eating something very spicy, if you don't have to use your hands, your WAY better off!!!!!! I have 3 chicken fingers with "Zapper" and 3 with "Obscene" with a side order of "Ludicrous". It was suggested that because the Ludicrous was SO hot, I should "sample" it first instead of possibly ruining an entire order by having them soak it in it. The Zapper sauce was like a Tabasco blend.....good flavor but not really too hot. The Obscene sauce was a step up in heat but still completely tolerable. I would probably order them this way when dining here again just so I could share them. I opened the lid to my side of Ludicrous and without thinking I took a piece of chicken with the Obscene sauce on it and dunked it in. To be fair, probably completely covering half of my piece. Oh, this stuff is HOT!!! Sooooooo hot I took another piece of chicken and dunked it in the sauce and ate it too. I think it shut down my ability to think straight for the moment, because after that I was eating fried broccoli and drinking my tea to put out the FIRRRRREEE!!!! There was a moment that I was not able to speak, not for wanting to, just so busy throwing something to eat or drink in my mouth I couldn't!! But after about 3-4 minutes I was back eating the rest...... go figure. I would recommend ordering the Obscene sauce on your wings and a side of Ludicrous like I did. As much as it's hot it tastes good, which in itself is hard to find, it can really shut you down if you are not careful. Wings complete, my Carolina burger arrives. A special burger topped with pulled pork, bacon and mix of slaw on it. I would definitely order this again.... The burger patty was nice and thick, cooked perfectly and the entire burger had an awesome combination of flavors to it!! At this point I was full so I opted not to try the fried cheesecake bites. As much as they sounded good, I just couldn't do it. The food is plentiful and VERY good! I look forward to returning for breakfast some day soon. The menu is vast and the choices are numerous!! Everyone was very friendly and service was quick!! When I arrived it was about 3:30pm on a Wednesday, their Wing Night. When I left at 4:30 there was a good size crowd gathering. The word is getting out and I can see why!! This place is open 24/7 with Wednesday Wing Night starting at 4pm. All I can say is try it you'll like it, there is something there for everyone! The staff was happy, competent, and laid back--a rare combination down the shore. The food was great, and the portions were just right. Funny decor--the chicken painting on the back wall grossed me out a bit.

Oh my god! It's the ChEgg! Last week on a visit back to the old homestead, i decide how awesome it would be to take the drive down to the showre to hang out a bit with the beach and have the only wings i will ever eat at the ChEgg. The disappointment i felt when i arrived and they were closed Mondays and Tuesdays until the season was in full swing was probably the worst i had felt in years. The hot sauce flavors are delectable. The Naked Wings in Medium is the place for me, but there's something for every little taste from wussy to ludicrous. The eggs are their specialty, and they don't mess around. I have never gotten something i didn't like here, from a plain pan of two eggs sunnyside up to their wild omelets. The staff is always a nice mix of locals and kids working the beach for the summer and partying regularly at night. Truly a gem on the beach, and worth the hour long drive to get there for a plate of wings at 2am on a Wednesday when you can't sleep (or are working).

Our yearly pilgrimage to the Chegg did not go well at first as we expected the wait off peak and during the week to be manageable. Even after 8:30 on a weeknight, the wait was over 90 minutes. I guess the off-peak idea was out. We tried again at about 3:30PM the next day, no wait. Yay!! I knew immediately that I wanted their boneless wings with their best sauce, Killer Bee Sting. Hot, but the honey gives it an un-hot-sauce-like flavor that compliments the chicken. There are hotter sauces, including the Ludicrous wings (no, not interested). The other good thing about the Chegg is that you can get their breakfast plates any time of day. That's good for my family, since my wife prefers breakfast food while I am more inclined to go for a lunch or dinner meal when given the choice, so everyone can be happy. Still several of the breakfast specials were not available after 1PM due to the lack of Hollendaise sauce after 1...?? Still, for an unbelievable amount of choice, and the most authentic LBI experience (first timers MUST come here for their first LBI meal), the Chegg is it! If you go any time people actually eat meals, bring a book and lots of patience, or go at 2:45 in the morning, open 24/7 on season. (You'll probably still wait...)

We've been coming here for years. Best clam chowder I've ever had. Anything we've ordered has been great. Portions are generous. The staff is friendly and efficient. Worth the wait

I thought the wings were great. They were very big and meaty and perfectly breaded (the exact way I like it). I have had breakfast here before and that was pretty good, too. I would say a pretty standard omelette. Pretty cool decor, but you will definitely be waiting for a table. This place is pretty popular. The wings are the real draw here. They are very good.

Affectionately known as the "Chegg" this one of a kind diner is ALWAYS worth the wait time.. even if that may be 2 hrs on a Sunday morning. On multiple occasions my friends and I have been here three times within a 24 hour span - brunch/ dinner/ 3am post bar. Crazy, I know. You are always guaranteed an excellent meal and can literally get anything you may be craving at that particular moment. My favs include their omelets, peanut butter pancakes, anything buffalo chicken.. and the french fries (best EVER). If you come to LBI without a trip to the Chegg you are seriously missing out..

I love this place, but I don't get here nearly enough. I've only been here late night, which is perfect after a night of drinking. Funny story - a friend and I showed up here one night with two guys we met earlier at the HH. I think the one dude was trying to show off or something and told the waitress he wanted the hottest wings they could offer. She explained their 15 levels of hottess and that the lidicrous wings were really really hot and to be sure he knew what he was ordering. He basically, blew her off and asked that she bring him the hottest wings - period. So our food arrives - he tries one wing and quickly reaches for his drink. We're all laughing, naturally. So, he tries to be tough and takes another bite. At this point, he's sweating - literally, beads of sweat from two bites. He's trying to play this all off (as well as he can) as he wipes his fingers, drenched in hot sauce on his napkin. He takes one more bite to finish the wing and drops the bone back on his plate. At this point his eyes are tearing. What does he do next? He grabs his napkin filled with this hot sauce (from wiping his hands) and wipes his eyes. Basically, he could no longer see as his eyes were burning and tearing. I mean, we all felt bad, but I think I still nearly fell outta the booth I was laughing so hard. I think for anyone who orders the ludicrious wings and finishs them all, they get to take home a complimentary chicken stuffed animal. Apparently, not too many people can pull this off. Yeah, so their wings are f'in hot, but like I said they have 15 levels, so pick the one best for you. The also have buffalo fingers (without the bones) and veggie wings (soy nuggets) which all come with your choice of hottness. Check out their website for the rest of the menu. Open 24-hours in-season.

came in here for breakfast on a sunday around 11 or so ... the wait wasn't too bad (around 30 minutes). there is a TON to choose from on this massive menu .. i went with the standard (2 scambled eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, and biscuit)...each was very solid, but the biscuit stood out .... buttery without needing any butter! next time im on the island, were coming here late night for wings!

Food is mad decent. Fun times with bros. Gotten a little overhyped and commercial. Liked when it was more underground back in the day. Skip the ripoff wings and come on wingnight at 5 before the crowd. Breakfast, solid sandwiches buffalo-ized, great to BYOB! Cheayah

I eat here every time I'm in LBI. I love their clam chowder, get it every time. The wings are amazing, though I've never had the Ludacris wings because I am not that brave. I love this place, good food and good times.

Great for breakfast, so-so for lunch. The sandwiches were just okay, nothing special taste-wise. The chicken wings were very good. The service was excellent and everyone working there was very nice. But the wait was insane (although seems pretty average on Beach Haven).

Simply put: Chicken or the Egg ROCKS! When I visit LBI, it's not a matter of whether I will eat there, it's a matter of how often I'll eat there. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, it doesn't matter. It's all good, and they have an enormous menu so there's plenty to choose. Highlights: - The Wings. Duh, that was obvious. I don't eat wings the entire rest of the year just so I can go hog wild here during the summer. My usual complaint about hot wings is that the term "hot" is usually more of a marketing gimmick than any actual fire and spice. Not at Chicken or the Egg. 14 different levels of spice, each available on either breaded or naked wings. My personal favorite is the "zapper" sauce, which is far hotter than any hot wing I've tried from a chain restaurant. But for those who dare, there are two higher levels -- "obscene" and "ludicrous" -- sure to bring tears to your eyes. They all come in order sizes from 6 to over 100 wings. - Goshdarnwich. A breakfast sandwich of eggs, bacon and cheese between slices of french toast. Sweet, salty and cheesy all at once. - Egg Hoagie. My wife's favorite, this is any one of their special omelets, served up on a hoagie roll. Not to be tried without the optional "buffalize" option -- any of their meals can be buffalized with any of the 14 hot sauces for the wings! Awesome. The long waits will be outside Uncle Will's. But it's Chicken or the Egg that's worth waiting for.

The egg dishes were pretty mediocre for a place with "Egg" right in the name but my pancakes (with blueberries, strawberries and granola) were really good. Everyone raves about the wings here but it was breakfast so we didn't have any.

You can't beat the CHEGG. Open 24-hours (in season), awesome food, great staff. Oh, and there's always dumb tourists trying to each food douched in ludicrous.

Oh holla. It's all about the late night menu. Not only is it the only time you can get a table without a wait, but there's so much over the top goodness to be had. Pork fries: pile of fries smothered in buffalo sauce, topped with shredded pork and cheese. Mmmm. Lifting the basket will work your biceps and it's no less heavy in your stomach, but worth every bite. Stoner cakes: chocolate, peanut butter, banana, and nuts in pancakes. Nuf said. Oreo milkshake: Liquid oreo. Unbelievable. And other ridiculous options such as the Fat Dragon (8oz burger, fried egg, slice of pork roll and a mozzarella stick IN A WRAP). All of it delicious. All of it with the potential to be 'buffalized'. I consider myself a spice fan but even I stick to the relatively low-level 'bar-b-whew' sauce, and not just cause I like to say 'bar-b-whew'. Ok a little cause of that. Once I had the killer beesting and the name was no joke. And the highest level sauce? It made my spice-a-holic Filipino friend cry. Tears of pain or of joy? You decide. But probably a little of both. All in all the Chegg is an excellent down-island option for fillin' you up good. And 24hr service is always a plus in my book.

I've only been there after 2am, each time the place was packed but getting a table was quick, the server was perfect, and the food arrived in record time (consider all the other customers there!). A great place for drunk food, and very moderately priced. The cheesy bread is really good, especially in light of no late night pizza places open in Beach Haven.

Cant say much bad about this one. Its been here for ever and its amazing all I can do is second the ophinions of my fellow yelpers here. I don't really think a review is necessary for the "Chegg" since most that have heard of it know that its great! The last time I visited LBI was about ten years ago and so I hadn't eaten there since. My husband was excited to go since we had just watched the show "Man vs. Food" and watched Adam the host take the ho twing challenge. So...we went and of course got the wings. I am not very tolerant of spicy foods so we opted for the beesting sauce. It was sweet and spicy and delish. The wings come "naked" or breaded and there are about 15 different levels of hot sauce to choose for the wings. We opted for the breaded ones. Then I ordered the cobb salad which I couldn't come close to finishing since the portion was huge. It was topped with fresh roasted turkey breast that the restaurant roasts itself. My husband had a chicken sandwhich that he enjoyed as well. Lots of fun for lunch, breakfast, or a casual dinner.

I don't get to LBI often enough. Mostly it's when my brother and I come down to help open up the house or help close up the house. either way it's usually off season. We seem to end up at this place on our way out of town. Over all the food is good and the selection is abundant. You're probably on vacation so you don't mind so much, and it's a bit touristy so you may be expecting it, but the price are a bit much. 2 eggs + the usual gets into the $12-15 range, excessive. But we are on an island.

Just like everyone else, i came here after a night of drinking in the summer heat. Oh, hangovers. We came here for breakfast; around 9am. I believe we waited about an hour for a table, but it was okay because everyone i was visiting raved about it. If you're waiting for1 hour at 9am, the place has to be good. The decor was outrageous; vintage newspaper tables, surfboards, plush chickens on every wall. I remember the menu being gigantic, but a little hard to follow. The food was good. I ordered waffles with strawberries on top. They were enormous, delicious, and satisfying, i could only eat half. Chicken or the egg cured my hangover. Prices were reasonable.

Needed a break from seafood. Heard from family members this place was good, and, they had wings, so I needed to try this place. The menu is fun and creative. They have a great selection. I wanted to call in my order for pickup, so after placing my order, I had heard it would be an hour wait! An hour! But, it was worth it, going to pickup up my order at close to 9pm, this place was packed!! I had ordered the ribs, Jamacian Jerk WIngs, and the Beesting wings. The Beesting where very impressive, with the heat creeping up and staying with you. The ribs where slightly under cooked, as they where a bit tough, but the flavor and sauce where there. My wife grabed the Healthy Choice chicken, which where two fillets of chicken grilled, with 2 sides, which she loved. Great experience, and a refreshing choice for the area, which has mostly crap and tourist traps. While this place may look like a tourist trap, its food is really good. Head and shoulders above the rest.

Ah, the Chegg. Home sweet home. I miss the chicken cheesteaks and the wingy goodness now that I can't just stroll on over. The best, best, best! During the Summer months, yes, there's a line but once the bennies go home it's in and out.

This is the best place on LBI, whether out for breakfast, lunch or coming back from the bars at 2 am. They're known for their buffalo wings, but don't worry my veggie friends, they also offer veggie wings! yum!

I love this place :) I've been there 3 times and enjoyed the wings! They are so good especially breaded. I think next time I will try something else on the menu, they have so much and the place is always packed. Not too bad of a wait, the longest we had to wait was an hour but it's well worth it :) I'm a "chicken" (no pun intended) when it comes to hot sauce and heard the hottest sauce has landed some in the hospital. I wouldn't brave it, just go and enjoy :)

    I. Love. This. Place. Having spent 2 years living a block away from here, I got pretty spoiled (and pretty chunky) so now when I have the chance to eat here I REALLY hate to miss out. The menu is VAST and FUN and the service is quick, usually entertaining, and the food is ALWAYS perfect. There are so many great things about this place I dont even know where to begin: ~you can get ANYTHING on the menu "Buffalized" in any sauce (there is a huge list) ~they are open 24 hours in season ~they dont give you an issue if you want to order a kids meal ~it's BYOB ~they have a LOT of vegetarian-friendly options ~they dont take themselves too seriously. Chegg, I love you. So hard.

LOVE the smell of hot sauce as soon as you walk in.... Oh yeah, and the wings are fantastic - you choose how hot you need your sauce. Great for breakfast and after you stumble your way home from the club :)

I honestly don't think this place rates its four stars - and I'm only giving it three because our waitress was so nice. On the plus side it's open 24 hours in season, the menu choice is huge and the staff are very nice. As for the negatives then the food is poor, and that's kind of the point for a diner. The home fries are deep fried, not done in a pan, and taste lousy. I ordered a three egg omlette with. Sausage, onion and mushroom. Based on the small size of what came out they must have used sparrow eggs, and I've seen more pork at rabbinical convention, although the three small pieces of sausage I did find were very tasty. My gf's salad wasn't too good either- just a tip but chopping onions is a good idea. Also the toilets were a right state. In all, it's a good place to take the kids, but I won't be back.

Also known as the "Chegg," this place was so nice, I went there twice. During peak hours, you will be waiting for a table, although that is the case with most establishments on Long Beach Island. The menu is impressive and the food is delicious. The first trip there, I had the buffalo pierogies and some nachos. The nachos can easily feed 2-4 people, so bring your appetite. The second time around, I tried the bruschetta pasta, which was also yummy. One thing you will have the chance to do is try their impressive variety of sauces, ranging in different levels and degrees of spice. The hottest sauce they have is the ludicrous sauce. It is indeed ludicrous, but very fun to eat. The waitress may actually warn you before you complete the request. A tiny dab of it goes a long way. I would love to go back. Also, they have RC cola, which is a nice dose of nostalgia for me.

Unique and casual cafe to say the least. Fun surroundings, huge menu and open all night. Fried Pickles - omg, so good. Crab Cakes with Avocado - delish. Omelets and Biscuits - tasty.

I have no idea how this place has so many great reviews. I drove 45 minutes to eat here when ANY diner I have been to serves much better food. Sadly, even an ihop is better than this dump! So what was bad....the wings. Just blah. Their garlic buffalo sauce is just bottled buffalo sauce with some garlic added to it. French toast is bland and unflavorful. Pancakes were doughy. Hash is out of can. Even the bacon was not great. Maybe lunch is better, but I will never be back as their are plenty of other places to eat on the island. I gave it 2 stars simply because it was edible and I was hungry.

The food was not great . It had a good feel when you walk in, but there is always a long wait. I had lunch and breakfast and both were not very good.

CHEGG CHEGG CHEGG. Ok sorry, I thought that would sound like a fratastic college boy saying "chug." Anywho, where to begin? Let's start this off by saying I'm a Man vs. Food connoisseur, and I like to pride myself on trying and succeeding in spicy challenges. I'm cocky, I'll admit it. But I can also handle a lot of spice. So of course, I arrive at CHEG into the wee hours of the night and drunk. And I'm ready to conquer this so called "ludicrous" sauce they tout. Here's where it all goes downhill. I ordered the wings with Ludicrous sauce and the 18-year-old waitress would not let me order it. I don't mean she said they're all out or she misinterpreted what I said. I mean she said no. So I said it's okay, I'm used to spicy foods and I know I can handle it. To which she replies that she still will not bring it. Now maybe she gets a lot of drunk idiots in there who want to burn their faces off. But I'm the real deal (cocky, I told you). Still, no budging her. I would've signed a waiver for heaven's sake. So she compromised by bringing me two toothpicks barely dipped in the sauce. I licked it, and I was fine. It was good. My friend turned bright red and was crying. Never once did the waitress come back to check if I wanted to change my order or even add another item with this sauce (how about the up-sell?) So I left with a sour, not spicy, taste in my mouth. The fourth hottest sauce on the menu that I ended up ordering for my chicken tenders was awesome. Definitely hot, but awesome. Really great food and I'll definitely go back. Hopefully next time I get served by a waitress who doesn't have a toothpick dipped in Ludicrous up her butt.

I looove the chegg!!! Whenever I'm in LBI I have to hit it up atleast twice per visit. It's the perfect stoner fun eating environment and the food is pretty damn good! They have a ton of options as all reviews state, but alot of healthy options tOo. The service is good, last time I went we had a cool waiter named Aaron. Everyone in LBI is just chill. I love the fresh seasonal fruit platter, they load it with every fruit they hAve in the place. The burgers are good as well as the sweet potato fries. I can't wait til next summer to go back and try different wing sauces, I've heRd so much about the beesting! Chegg is an awesome place to go high, drunk, or sober and they r open 24 hours so go anytime! If there's a long wait, there is a reason for that!

Chegg has kind of redeemed itself in my eyes because of my experience yesterday afternoon. One thing I really am not a fan of is the fact that there is always a ridiculous wait...usually a minimum of one hour. However, if you're looking for comfort food then look no further. Their menu is a bit on the overwhelming side, as far as I'm concerned--it's just too busy with 900 million colors and graphics, etc. If I wasn't with Professional Cheggers I would have had more difficulty navigating the menu. I decided to go with the buffalo chicken wrap, but with grilled chicken instead of breaded. My two friends ordered the Fat Chegg - which is apparently every fried appetizer in a wrap with buffalo sauce. We also shared a small order of teriyaki fries. Now, this doesn't seem like too much food considering I even opened up the second half of the wrap and ate just the the chicken portion (it was mostly lettuce, tomato and onion fill) BUT I seriously began to feel VERY SLEEP. We got into the car and I immediately fell into a full on food coma. I could not keep my eyes open. I've enjoyed six course tasting and wine pairings that haven't even done this to me. What the hell do they put in this food?! Insanity.

Good food, way too crowded with tourists, get here way early if you don't like to wait. Wings are what you want here if your going anytime after breakfast. Open 24/7

We had lunch at this spot when we were ready for a break from all the seafood spots on LBI. We had a chicken sandwich and a buffalo chicken finger wrap with a choice of wing sauce. Food was good, but portions could have been bigger. Most sandwiches didnt come with fries, just a pickle. Service was very good and our server was very friendly and attentive. While the place frequently has a mass of people outside, the wait was actually not too bad. Though we did overhear someone talking about a two hr wait on another occasion.. The decor was diner-like, but clean and comfortable. I would definitely go back, but most likely between meal times, as it can get busy. Oh and its 24hrs so this is probably a good spot for late night dining.

    (3)
  • Jon T.

Great spot to get your fried food fill. The wings are solid with a great variety of sauces from hot to sweet. Crab cakes were better than anticipated as its not a seafood spot. I was surprisingly liking the fried broccoli too. Didn't get a chance to try the breaded wings but will do so next time I'm at the shore...

I dream about this place when I'm not on LBI, which is most of the year. Their California Burrito for breakfast is so delicious I can't believe it's good for you (egg whites, avocado, turkey sausage, yum!). I would say we spent the majority of our breakfast time there. For a holy unhealthy, yet SO GOOD option, you must try the Country Bumpkin. I hope this item also makes it onto the regular menu from the specials, as the cali burrito did. Service is always great. When they get busy, the wait is unbearable so go before 9am for a leisurely experience. I also had to send back an iced coffee b/c i'm pretty sure the glass had some fruity syrup remnants so my coffee was accidentally flavored. But do not let that deter you. Go forth and enjoy the great food. The carbs menu is really good, hot cakes, waffles.

I have been here on several occasions. It seems to be highly recommended by everyone and I don't know why. The food and service is mediocre, and the lines are ridiculous. Uncle Wills down the street is a much better idea.

The husband and son'd favorite wing joint. They got take away wings tonight with zapper and obscene sauces. I had a really good salad with lots of goodies in it. The CHEGG is consistently good and we enjoy going.

This place is heaven for wing lovers! They have somewhere around 25 different spicy sauces that you can pair with many of the dishes scattered across the menu. Went with a group of friends on a late night and it was awesome. Between my boyfriend and I we ordered killer bee sting sauce and the spicy garlic sauce on wings that just rocked our world. The spicy garlic sauce on breaded wings was one of (if not) the best wings me and my boyfriend have ever had, (coming from self proclaimed spicy wing veterans). We also ordered the mac n cheese (which was kraft) and the garlic bread (comparitive to CiCi's at best) but the sauce and those wings is what keeps us for wanting to go back! They also serve breakfast, which will definitely be an adventure! We live about an hour and a half away and dont mind making the drive onto LBI, however we will probably be returning during the off season, because you are gaurenteed an extremely long wait to get into this place during the summer. Also, all the people who work at this place are your classic beach bum jerks, their really nice, but extremely annoying with that laid back i-totally-came-to-work-high-and-its-hilarious attitude. But anyway their food is great and their sauces are out of this world, oh.. and did I mention that THIS PLACE IS 24 HOURS? yeah.. you just fell inlove.

On a Thursday (mid)night, it was poppin' in there! At "Chegg", the atmosphere felt like a mix between a Denny's and Chuck E Cheese... a breakfast spot with tasty appetizers and lunch-foods, and oodles of unsupervised kids out past curfew. To Order: Jumbo Buffalo Wings (naked) with "Zapper" grade Buffalo Sauce (with side of "Obscene" Buffalo Sauce). -The "Zapper" is 3rd from the top in spicy rank, and the "Obscene" ranks as 2nd. Both were very tangy, flavorful sauces perfect with the wings I ordered. Unlike the description, though, the wings weren't so "jumbo." In fact, they were quite small. Oh well. Crabcakes -Not the typical crunchy I like in crabcakes, but the crab embedded inside brought out a crab flavor I've never tasted in any other crabcake. To rate these crabcakes specifically, they were very tasty... though if you're a big fan of texture, this is not for you. Sweet Potato Fries -I didn't find these to be a standout hit. They are as SPF's are supposed to taste... good. Nothing more to boast about here. If you want ANYTHING buffalized, ask and you shall receive. Anything on the menu can be drenched in any level of their Buffalo sauces for good (or bad?) measure. All in all, we enjoyed our time there, time worthy of 4 Stars.

Very fun and lively atmosphere. Make a reservation because this place is hoppin'! Menu was fun and interesting, and the 15 wing sauces are awesome (I've only tried two so far, but am going back this week 8-) Price is about where I would expect, and is very reasonable for the quantity and quality. BYOB

Amazing Wings!! Hands Down!!! This is the local LBI hang out. It is OPEN 24/7 in the summer. They have EVERYTHING!! Every Wednesday after 4pm they have wing night. All you can eat wings!!! All the locals who actually live in this area fill this place up on a Wednesday so don't be late!! This place is a BYO but don't get caught drinking under age. They are VERY strict about that and they will throw out your beers on you if you try to be slick lol Their wings range from mild to extreme hot. You can select what level of hotness you want them to be prepared in. The nachos are RIDICULOUS!! They put some sort of topping on them, I believe its BBQ sauce that makes them amazing! Everything there is good. The chicken sandwiches, mozz sticks, nachos and of course the wings. If you are on the island this is a must try. If you are coming back from a bar on the island late night, this is a DEFINITE must try lol

Great service, fantastic French onion soup, go with the naked wings as the breaded ones can be too filling.

I love this place and I've only been here twice. I didn't even stay on LbI this time around I was just heading back up from AC. Completely worth the wait. The place is always packed but u get serviced super fast. I ordered a dozen and half wings to go. I ordered honey BBQ wings, mild, and garlic spice wings breaded. All really delicious! I've also tried their jerk wings before n that was my favorite. When I come back to this place I do wanna try some Of their sandwiches but by far best wings around!

First time trying this place due to recommendations from people we know plus the reviews. It gets 4 stars. Good food, good prices so the value is there. Definitely recommend this place. Also many selections. Pros: Not just breakfast or chicken. They have a vast menu. I ordered the shrimp scampi which was part of their early bird specials (must be seated prior to 6 pm). It was good and portions were good. Use the No Wait app. It works. Otherwise, you will wait at least 1/2 hour. We got seated a couple of minutes before 6pm. The early bird special is a 3 course meal including a drink. It's a great value. I posted a pic of the shrimp scampi and the dessert that I got (chocolate pudding). Portions were good. Salad was ok. My wife & daughter had the crab cakes with mash potatoes & stuffing. They loved the crab cakes and mash potatoes with gravy. My son had chicken tenders which he liked. The fries were good. Our waitress was great. Cons: The flies. There are a lot of flies here. At least 4 around our table so that was annoying trying to eat with them flying around. Not just our table. I saw others moving their hands around swatting at them. This is my only complaint. The food for the price is tops. But don't expect anything fancy. Take advantage of the early bird specials and use the no wait app (which works with other restaurants). Also you pay at the front. We were waiting for our waitress to pick up the check but never came. I motioned for her who then told me I need to pay upfront.

Overall, pretty great food at this 24/7 restaurant. The best thing that I tried was the chicken an waffles, served with sausage gravy. I ordered mine with a over easy egg on top. It was terrific. The sausage gravy was thick, well spiced, and tasty. The waffles were slightly sweet on their own and didn't need syrup. The breaded chicken tenders paired well with everything, and I absolutely recommend getting an egg on top. The breaded chicken breasts themselves were pretty standard. Nothing out of the ordinary or special here. They have a bunch of different sauces, similar to Buffalo Wild Wings. I tried a couple of sauces, they weren't bad. I also tried the Jersey Chowder. 1/2 New England, 1/2 Manhattan clam chowder. Phenomenal. I can see how this has won awards again. This was my first experience with 1/2 and 1/2 chowder, and it is something that I will be looking for in the future. Service was friendly and quick enough. This plac can get crowded, so calling ahead for a table would be smart.

I drive across the island every time I'm here for this LBI staple. Over the years, the hype has grown and the wait has gotten significantly worse. The service is always strong and fast. Food quality has dwindled a by with the crowds. If you're looking for excellent food 24 hours a day, this is your place.

All right, call me a naysayer. If the lines in the summer weren't simply insane, I'd say the food was good. Just good. But to wait an hour or more for this? Ah, no. The Chicken or the Egg is indeed a good restaurant. The portion sizes are generous, the menu choices vast, the food consistent and that's to our advantage. There are some happy surprises on the menu too. They make surprisingly good chowder, good sandwiches and wraps. Burgers are solid, as are their breakfast dishes. And the wings are, to be sure, spot on each and every time. But what, in heaven's name, is the big deal? What makes it worth the wait? Nothing. But somehow, The Chicken or the Egg has created a cult following and a frantically passionate throng makes the pilgrimage mandatory. Neither I nor the rest of my family "get it". We've eaten there each and every summer -- usually at least twice. And every time we walk away wondering what all the hoopla was about. There is nothing great, nothing outstanding, nothing exceptional -- nothing that makes you say, "OMG - this is GREAT food". Nope. Just a solid experience. No harm, no foul. I'm not trying to do the "Debbie Downer" routine here -- I'm just calling it for what it is. A good, consistent restaurant without anything earth-shattering. You won't be rocked back in your seat. When you finally get one, that is.

It may never be possible to determine what came first between the chicken or the egg. But so long as they pair so well at an impressive brunch and spicy chicken wing destination, why would you waste your time trying to figure out such sciences? Chicken or the Egg was a spot that I've heard many things about while on my LBI travels, and my curiosity was piqued after seeing the Man VS Food episode where Adam Richman took on the wing challenge. So during my first beach side morning it was my immediate destination. And I was instantly wowed by the eclectic decor, egg & chicken painting themed painting inspired by classics, the selection of wing sauces that they offered, and the welcoming staff who took their service up a notch. It was also awesome to know that it was now open 24 hours. As huge as the menu is with its seafood, pancakes, soups, burgers, and then some that went beyond its two signature ingredients; choosing went well beyond selecting between the chicken or the egg. But since I was craving both I went with Buffalo Chicken Omelet topped with blue cheese and their honey bbq sauce. Since being in LBI also had me craving clam chowder I went with their award winning Jersey that was 1/2 & 1/2 Manhattan and New England. The omelet was kicked up and filling, and the Chowder was a perfect combo of chunky and creamy. A second visit before hitting home also gave me the chance to try their jumbo lump crab omelet, and never before has seafood and egg been so perfectly combined! With so many amazing items to try with a bottomless cup of coffee, Chicken or the Egg definitely has a spot amid my top diner/brunch list.

The chegg is a must every summer. Their wings are so good. It's nice to go to a nice relaxed atmosphere to hang out and get some really great food. The restaurant decor is a little wacky but that's one of the things I appreciate about it. I really wish that there were more chegg locations closer to home because I'm sure it's a place that I would go to a lot.

Long past sunset on damp summer night, I meandered along the island after a thirst quenching visit to Hudson House in search of something to satisfy my growing hunger. A few miles passed. I realized I was far from the familiar, welcoming embrace of the city's late-night eats. Then, with a sudden stroke of brilliance, I snapped out of my booze-laden stupor and grabbed my phone. "Let me yelp right quick," I smoothly uttered to my growingly impatient girlfriend. Before I even told her where we were going, I typed the address into Google Maps and we were off. It wouldn't be long before we took our seats The Chicken or the Egg. It was 3am, the place was packed, and some guy tossed me a cold PBR Tallboy as I waited 10 minutes to be seated. Before I knew it, I found my self in a weird little kind of heaven, where sandwiches were made with French Toast, cheese fries were crisply seasoned with Old Bay, and walls were prettified with quirky, yet appropriately themed art. The Zapper sauce on my wings sobered me up for a second before I got back to work on the PBR. At long last, my hunger was satisfied--and my tastebuds were thankful.

This would be a great place to go if you're really drunk and really hungry or really hungover and really hungry. Disclaimer: I was sober and a normal amount of hungry during my visit. When we arrived it was packed, but there was no one else waiting for a table, so we were able to put our names in right away. The hostess told us it'd be about a ten minute wait. We only waited about two minutes before a gal came and called our name. She walked us to a back table but that table wasn't ready. So she sent us back up front saying "you'll have to wait about 10 minutes." So we waited. Several other parties had come in during this time and were seated before us. We were forgotten about, until my husband went up to the hostess to remind her that we weren't actually seated yet. Not a huge deal, though. It was busy-- Mistakes happen. There is a great selection of food here. I really appreciate a place where I can choose between breakfast or lunch options (Even though this kind of freedom makes life harder for me. How do you choose?!) I ordered a turkey wrap and wings and my husband ordered some kind of glorious breakfast sandwich/French toast combo. The wings were good. I prefer mine a little more "done" but that's just a personal preference. The sauce was good too and bonus points for the moist towelettes! My husband's French toast sandwich was on point, but his breakfast potatoes were meh. My turkey wrap was just okay. I think I should have gone with breakfast. I hate feeling like I chose wrong. All in all: a decent experience.

Best wings on the island. Get there early during prime hours, expect to wait close to an hour on wing night (wed) Prices are decent as far as the norm on the island, and they have lots to choose from from wings to sandwiches. It has become a staple of when you are on the island you go to the chicken or the egg at least once.

Great specialty food. Open 24 hours and serving breakfast at all times!!! My favorite would be the eggs benedict but I have also gotten some of their specials - my particular favorite being the crabby omelet - delicious! There is usually a wait so be prepared, although its worth it for the food. The last time I was here our waiter was excellent but we have not always been so lucky in the past. They like to rush you to order but their menu is so large and overwhelming, if you have never been it will take you forever to go through and decide what you want. Definitely a place to try and usually is quick with good service!

This place has the potential to be really awesome but it was just alright. I came with a party of 5 but we were waiting for another person and they refused to seat us without her. Not a big deal, but the attitude of the host made the situation worse with him placing all the blame on management and repeating "it's not my rule I can't do anything". (Also, another host stood around the counter trying to figure out his employee meal and complaining that people were there because he had to wait for his dinner.) We finally did get seated and our server was great, down to earth and knowledgeable on the menu. They have a great selection of vegetarian options and I had a "chik'n" wrap which was really good. When it came time to pay the same rude host gave attitude again when we tried to split the check and made it difficult for our party. I probably won't visit this place again next time I'm in LBI.

I have been to this place twice now with my family and it's super energetic and fun; great for family meals and child friendly. The portions are very generous and no doubt, you will be rolling out holding your belly shortly before you descend into a food coma. If you're going during peak summer season, make sure to arrive an hour before you're actually hungry because there's always a LONG WAIT. But the upside is, it's worth it.

There are a lot of reasons to five-star an eatery. Something as simple as a friendly and helpful staff can be enough to some, while others may focus on the food alone. In this case, I want you to know that this establishment, encompasses everything you could possibly ask from a diner. The interior is super vibrant and if you come in sleepy for breakfast...it's sure to help you awake. All the menu items are a delight to read but, they will also make it so difficult to decide since everything sounds delicious. I'm not going to bother explaining everything we ordered because I wasn't disappointed with a single item on each plate. Everything was cooked to perfection, the waitress was exceptionally sweet and cheery, especially for 6:30 in the morning. If you are in Long Beach for any extent of time you must make this a stop. It's absolutely worth it.

Honestly love this place, I come to LBI every year for a week or two with my family and friends and we never skip out on going here, early, afternoon or super late there's never a bad time to go. Lines are always super long to wait to get in, you can't call and put your name in over the phone but you can either show up and put your name in or get the app "no wait" kinda ironic since you have to wait to get in right? But the staff is super friendly and food always comes out super fast. Eating here high, drunk or sober is perfect because they have everything you can ever want. They have 16 different sauces you can put on your wings, chicken tenders, shrimp or veggie tenders. They sell shirts and also the sauces! Person who owns this place must bring in big bucks because I've never seen this place empty even off season. I would highly recommend going here when you visit LBI I promise you won't be disappointed.

Great when it was a start up, but now it's overrated. Food is just ok, but the selection is more than you can ask for. It's more kitsch than a place to go for great food. However, if you really need a Belgian waffle at 3 in the morning during season, it's the go to place.

Atmosphere: Casual. Bright. Fun. Decor: Kinda like walking into a comic book. Service: GREAT! Super, super, super accommodating, especially for children. Friendly. Willing to make exactly what you want. Food: Very good & very fresh large portions (I've only ever been here for breakfast though). My favorite part: FRESH, FRESH, FRESH fruit/berries can be added to any breakfast meal for CHEAP! On our most recent visit I asked for a bowl of fruit, specifically berries and bananas. We were served a huge portion of blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and sliced bananas. Everything was so delicious and fresh... and the best part, it was really reasonably priced! Overall: Don't waste your time at the other overpriced mediocre food establishments on LBI... this place is the place for exceptional food for the price & great service on LBI. Last minute tip: There is often a wait for a table, but you can go online and enter your name ahead of time with certain apps.

Ok so I know how fabulous the food is......however the staff could be a whole lot nicer!!! I also know when I go there I expect to wait....hostess kept BSing me about My table being "ready in 2 mins" and "they're cleaning it now". Also when we told her we had been waiting 45 mins, she corrected us by saying "you've only been waiting 41 mins". Seriously????? Owner was nice enough but obviously supported his staff. Thumbs down on people skills!!!!!!

Great food with plentiful portions no matter what you order. My mouth just salivated as the waitress kept passing by with other patrons' food. I decided on the chicken taco salad which was excellent all the way around. Next time I'm trying their chicken wings which looked huge and very tasty!

Let's start with the obvious: this place has the word "chicken" in its name. After a friend who lives down the shore suggested them for lunch, I spent a good 20 minutes on their website BEYOND overjoyed that such a place would exist. (Okay, I realize KFC exists, but play along with me here. I don't know about you, but I won't step foot in a KFC..) After a week of anticipation, the day of our plans finally arrived and we headed into the "Chegg" around 1 p.m. It was a weekday in September so there were only a few other occupied tables, but I hear from my friend that the place is usually packed with long waits. I had trouble deciding on what to order despite having examined their menu ahead of time. The server had to come back twice. It was pretty bad. In the end, I was so boring and chose... plain ol' chicken fingers with honey mustard and a side of loaded fries. I realize how anticlimactic that is. My apologies. They were good, however, and cheap, and that's what counts here. In addition to all the chicken (...and egg...) options, you'll also be surrounded by chicken decor. It's... eclectic. /Weird. /I liked it. There were two things I *didn't* like about the Chegg: 1) They don't have deli-style chicken salad on their menu. Huh? That makes no sense to me. 2) I wanted to wash my hands before handling the chicken fingers, but there was someone using the single bathroom ahead of me. That meant I had to awkwardly hover over a table. And also, I felt bad for the people seated there. There was a pungent smell in that vicinity. No thank you. I hope to return someday, and I promise that if I do, I'll choose something that can't be ordered on a kid's menu!

Another fantastic breakfast in LBI. My picky kids managed to eat everything on their plates. Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon, light and airy omelettes, perfectly fried egg and sweet French toast rounded out our big breakfast. there may be a wait but it's all worth it!

  • Joe S.

I don't get it. The lines to get in this place are astronomical for food.that's so so. Nothing special here. Either the people writing great reviews are related to the owners or they were born without a palate. Makes one think

  • Ed C.

See previous reviews noting this establishment as the perfect place to show up drunk or sleepy or hungry or sunburned or stoned or all of the above as it's open 24 hours. And don't forget to refer to it as The Chegg. Food is better than OK. Average vacation LBI fare.

I'm not sure what to even say about this place but YES! Their breakfast is amazing, from their omelets, to the eggs Benny, the French toast, pancakes, etc. I won't even think about eating breakfast anywhere else while I'm on the island. The service is always fast, efficient, and just friendly enough. Prices are reasonable and you get large portions.

Knowing nothing about LBI or its dining establishments, the Chicken or the Egg came highly recommended by Yelp and a few folk we asked. The popularity was evident by a packed house at 10:45 on a Monday morning. We were told it would be a 45-60 minute wait for our group of 10. I left my cell phone number and they were to text us when the table was ready. With such a big wait time in front of us, we started wandering down the block. Less than 15 minutes later, I received a text that our table was ready! Not sure how that happened, but I thought the text system was awesome. Faced with my epic battle of sweet versus savory, I decided on the Buffalo Chicken Omlet. I didn't even have to decide between the chicken or the egg, I got them both! Even more decisions came my way when I got to pick one of the 16 hot sauces to go with my dish. Being a fan of spice, I went with the Killer Beesting. I was a little disappointed upon receiving my omlet that the chicken wasn't prepared with the sauce; the sauce was only part of the omlet. The flavor could have gone a longer way if the grilled chicken pieces spent a little time marinating. I also asked for an extra side of sauce to dress my omlet and use for my home fries. The sauce was described as very hot with a drop of honey. I loved the element of sweetness although didn't think the sauce was overly hot. I'd be curious to try to Ludacris. I also got to sample the Cinnamon Roll French toast and Jersey Cakes. The Cinnamon Roll French toast reminded me of a Cinnabon and was amazing. The Jersey Cakes were filled with bacon, sausage and taylor ham. Once covered with syrup they made for a perfect sweet and savory combo. Portions were good but not killer. Our server was also pretty efficient and on his game. The Chicken or the Egg is apparently open 24 hours and serves their breakfast menu all day. Nice! I'd certainly return if I'm ever back in LBI.

Awesome food and great service. If you haven't tried there wings you must! So many different flavors!! There breakfast is also spectacular! Can't go wrong!! Only downside is the wait in the summer :/ 30-50 minutes at a time no matter what time on the weekends.

Always love coming back to the chicken and the egg. Went around breakfast time this trip and food was as good as always. Some had breakfast items and others went for the chicken wings. Great selections of dishes and never disappoints. We try to never forget to buy some of their wings sauce when we visit.

Whether it's, breakfast, brunch or dinner, the Chegg does everything right. From their PHENOMENAL boneless chicken with an awesome variety of sauces, to just some pancakes and eggs, ITS ALL GOOD. There's always a wait, but that shows how many people love this place. And the fact that they're open late is perfect for the night owls like myself. I can't say enough good things about this place.

    (5)
  • David T.

The wings were very good and tasty. The French onion soup was very good and cheesy. The waiter was very good and professional. If you like wings, this is the place to go.

My fiancé and I were hungry late at night on LBI and decided to trek over to the other side of the island after reading rave reviews about the Chicken or the Egg. It was about 1am and the place was PACKED with what appeared to be drunk college students. The line was out the door, even at that late hour, so we decided to take our food to go, a decision that the person at the door said was wise. We only waited about 10 minutes for our food and there was ample parking across the street too. I ordered the fried chicken n waffles, which came with an interesting gravy on top and Cole slaw on the side. My food was tasty (I loved how perfectly the chicken was fried and the generous portion as well), but there was something off about the gravy and the coleslaw tasted old. Overall, I liked it, but the sauces and coleslaw definitely tasted different. Perhaps those things would taste better if people visit earlier in the day. My fiancé ordered a chicken sandwich and said he enjoyed his meal. It's probably not worth the ~10 - mile trek every time we are on Long Beach Island, but I'm certainly glad we tried this place once! It's probably up there with the best restaurants on the island.

This place is just awesome. There's really no other word to describe a chicken-centric restaurant that offers vegetarian wings. Why shouldn't us non-meat eaters get to taste all of those delicious sauces the Chegg is known for? I come here a handful of times a year, either visiting LBI for a long weekend or visiting my sister who lives a half an hour away but we take the drive anyway because it's so good. The wait during the summer months is usually crazy, but they take your phone number and text you when you're table is ready, which is something a lot of restaurants should start doing. It's a great place for families, but is open 24 hours so also a convnient place for the post-bar crowd. The food is creative, delicious and affordable. The menu really caters to everyone; breakfast lovers, chicken lovers,a generous amount of vegetarian options (they use Quorn products). I'm dying to try their milkshakes! They look absolutely amazing but I've always been to full after my lunch to order one. Next time!

For a place called "chicken or the egg" their chicken is pretty bad. Not good quality food.

I have no qualms with this place whatsoever. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast while we were on vacation and came back a day later for take out dinner. Must haves: Breakfast. Their breakfast menu is expansive and cheap for the great value of the food. I had a California burrito and wasn't that huge of a fan, it just seemed underwhelming and would have benefitted with one of their 16 hot sauces thrown in the mix. On the other hand my boyfriend got their porkwich sandwich and was a major fan, as was I. Wings. With 16 different sauces to choose from you get a different experience each time. The bone in wings have so much meat on them a six piece could be a meal of its own. Great staff. Eclectic and quirky environment. Clean space. Make the chicken or the egg a dining destination when you visit LBI.

This place is the best breakfast place on Long Beach Island! They have whatever type of food I may like. The line is a little long but once you get in the place is great. Every time I come to the shore I always go there. They are open 24 hours so you can have breakfast lunch or dinner. I would definitely recommend it.

This is my favorite restaurant in the world. I have been vacationing in LBI for almost 20 years. This was always a go to breakfast spot for us. Nine years ago I started bring my boyfriend (now fiance) who loves anything buffalo and he went nuts! Their wings are the best I have ever had. So many amazing sauces. Bee sting & garlic top that list for sure! I have had many things here and never have had a bad meal. Favorites include Buffalo Chicken Omelet, French Toast, Wings, Nachos, and my absolute favorite which is the Buffalo Chicken Philly!! (with beesting sauce). When we come in the summer for a few days we usually eat at Chegg 3-4 times. HIGHLY recommend!!! & its BYOB!

  • Sandra C.

Awesome food and great service! The wings are great. Honey BBQ is my favorite. Buffalo chicken sandwich with any wing sauce is delicious. The owners were all there and are very friendly. It was packed as always but very efficient.

Best wings in the state of New Jersey! Pretty much anything on the menu is amazing. Try the fried broccoli. Can get crowded on wing night and in the summer.

Chegg is a classic beach haven, long beach island spot. They're a top choice for their wings and chicken sandwiches with a great selection of hot sauces. It doesn't just stop there because the menu has much more to offer including many breakfast items. This is a spot you can walk into at 3am and expect to see it packed. If you intend to dine there around normal dinner hours expect a bit of a wait, this place is always busy. For me and my friends it's always a must have during the summer time. Oh and it's also byob. Watch out for that ludicrous sauce though.

    (5)
  • M D.

You can't come to the island without having atleast one meal from here. The bee sting wings were my fav, teriyaki and honey bbq are runner ups. Not a fan of te super hot wings, I'd rather taste my food lol. The French Toast was cooked just right, not too thick or soggy...eggs were scrambled with just enough cheese. Download the app called No Wait and add yourself to the list before you arrive. That was one of the most convenient things I've come across when dining out...sign up on your phone and just check the app to see how many parties are left ahead of you. Til next time guys!

Munchie food. Okay. Not worth waiting more than 30 minutes. BYOB concept is cool, I would recommend going late at night or the off season if you're a local

The second I get onto the island, I am RUNNING to The Chicken or the Egg. This place always has a line out the door, no matter the time of day. It's really that good, and worth the wait. The decor, vibe, everything of this place is fun and immediately puts you on vacation mode. Probably a good thing, since eating healthy isn't exactly the objective here. On our visit, the husband and I split an order of boneless buffalo wings, onion rings (great dipping sauce!!), and a "justa big salad" (literally... just a giant bowl of salad). It was a perfect balance of fried and fresh, and we loved it. It's a good thing I don't live near here... Here's a secret: you can skip the line, and order to go! Even when it's busy, though, service is still great.

  • Jonathan R.

My family has been coming here for years...this last trip to the shore has seen some very unpleasant front of the house staff. Waiter/waitresses have been great and food solid as usual...maybe talk to the tweens running the front and teach them some manners cause they suck to deal with.

  • Steven F.

So I took the wife and kids here and the French Toast, Eggs, Pancakes, and cinnamon Bun French Toast were really good. There was a foul smell when we walked in and that put a sour note over the entire meal but we were able to get past it. What I really liked was if you have the "NoWait" app you check in with the reservation desk and the app lets you know how many people are ahead of you so you can shop right across the street until the last possible second! The waitress we had was awesome, my son didn't like (neither did I) the Buffalo Chicken Cheese steak and with no questions asked allowed us to order another meal. We will be coming back here for breakfast!

  • James P.

The food was good, but my problem was the wait time and the service. We waited for TWO hours just to get a seat. The server was rude and short with us. After we sat, we felt like we were rushed to eat and get out. Loke i said the food was good the the service soured me on the place. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place until they fix that problem.

Fantastic!!! Called in an order for pickup and the said 40 minutes. So, I waited a bit went there go my order and paid all within the 40 minute time frame. Got home and divided up the 6 orders. All were perfectly done and tasted delicious! ! The cost was par for the course all meals were hot....it was just delicious!! I'd go again in a minute! !

Used the No Wait app so waited less than five minutes so that was great. Sat down and waited awhile for the waiter to come over for drink orders. Coffee is very good. Ordered and he screwed up my omelette order. Couldn't find him to get it fixed and I was too hungry to wait. Didn't see him again until I finished the omelette. Omelette was paper thin and tasteless. Asked for the check and when he dropped it off said we could pay up front. When I looked at the check he charged for a full stack of pancakes for my son instead of the short stack we ordered and received. Tried to get his attention to fix it and just pointed at the front and wouldn't come by the table. Horrible service, mediocre food. Won't be back.

  • Matt H.

Chegg is a must for me whenever I'm down LBI. In season the wait times are long, but it's oh so worth it. Great service and the place is spotless. Wings are delicious, my personal favorite sauce is beesting (I even bought a bottle to bring home with me). If your feeling ambitious, try the Fat Chegg. It'll change your life.

    (5)
  • Mark W.

AMAZING! That's the best way to describe this place. Known as The CHEGG by frequent flyers, you can get almost anything here. The wings are out of this world. Just trying all their wing sauce varieties is a challenge. The menu is huge! Something for everyone. This is truly the only place I go on a regular basis where I always makes it a point to try something new. And I've never been disappointed! Open 24 hours during the summer. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snacks. Not to be missed!!

  • Michelle W.

Always a long wait so doesn't matter when you come unless you come like at 4am? maybe then it won't be so long. It's open 24 hours. Really? yes! Anyways, came here for the wings so we must have them. Teriyaki and buffalo wing style. Pretty tasty and portions were large. I ordered the chicken with the waffles. The orders were huge. I literally had to pack mine to go because I just couldn't finish the whole meal.

    (4)
  • Peter C.

I'm a big fan of the Chegg. The wings of course are the best, but I'm a meat and potatoes guy, and I love the meatloaf. The crowds are crazy in the summer, but takeout is a breeze.

  • Sean N.

This place has some of the best wings I have ever had. Recently my brother-in-law and I went and ordered chicken fingers and veggie wings with a side of all 16 sauces! The waiter told us that in the 13 years he's worked there no one had ever done that before. As we worked our way through was the bottom to the top I was amazed at how good every sauce was! Even the more painful sauces had great flavor, until we got to the ludicrous sauce. Even dipping just a tiny bit in it was painful and was the only sauce I didn't absolutely love but is worth the challenge. Great food, be prepared to wait for a table but it will be worth it!

As gimmicky as this place is (and a complete tourist haven in the summer) this place is always a solid spot to grab a meal. It never disappoints and I always leave full. The Chegg is known for their omelets and wings but the menu is enormous and they do many other things very well. I have had everything from appetizers, breakfast, soups, lunches, dinners and desserts and they always hold their own. The cheesesteaks and French dip are awesome and the bread is always soft and fresh. The santos sauce and swamp sauce are my favorite wings but there is quite a diverse selection that will surely fit your palette. They are great naked or breaded. I will return as long as they stay open. If the line is huge don't sweat it, give them your cell number and they have an automated system that will text you when it's your turn (go play mini golf while you wait and build up that appetite)

  • Peter D.

The food and service were excellent! Home fried potatoes have a delicious seasoning. Pancakes are a little heavy so plan to split with someone. Very kid friendly and welcoming. Open 24 hours, would definitely try again and highly recommend!

By far the best overall restaurant. No wait app works so well and food is always delicious. My boyfriend and I are wing connoisseurs and these are by the best! Specifically the garlic spice and santos. The breakfast is also amazing. Come prepared to eat!

  • Wayne W.

This place is one of the few restaurants I have been to that truly deserves 5 stars. They have more options for food then most diners. They have craziest invented concoctions as well which are oh so delicious. I got the wafflewich off of their special menu and it was so awesome it was a chicken and waffle sandwich with maple syrup and sweet and sour pepper jelly. With Monterey jack cheese. Just one of their many awesome items. The line is usually pretty long and the wait is insane. Your best bet is to check in and leave because you can see your wait time on your phone as it approaches. Coolest place ever awesome food desert and appetizers. Eat here and you will be coming back every time you possibly can.

  • Sharon G.

What can I say about "The Chegg" as those who frequent this place call it. It has something for everyone and it is open around the clock! It is a staple of Long Beach Island especially Beach Haven. The wings are awesome with many different sauce types and you can also order them baked. It's usually an incredibly long wait but it's a shore town and everyone comes here. The egg omelettes are great, salads are great and the desserts are lets just say "cinnamon roll ice cream sandwich". You really cannot go along with anything here! The only thing I recommend is be patient there is a long wait and bring your own alcohol. Enjoy and have a cinnamon ice cream sandwich for me!

One of the only spots on lbi open late. Had Kobe beef burger, fat chegg, and buffalo chicken wrap. Chicken wraps were not great. Would deff not order again. We were very shocked since it a chicken spot. Kobe burger was actually very good. Would deff order again. Service (our waiter was disco) was great. Alot of young people and very upbeat atmosphere.

If you haven't been to the "Chegg", you're seriously missing out. Located in the heart of LBI, in the middle of the cutest mom and pop shore shops, you'll find what your stomach has been searching for. Don't be intimidated by the large crowds of people waiting outside the restaurant. Its reputation, wait, service, and food are well worth it! We usually put our name down, receive a text when the table is ready, and depending how long the wait is, shop around in some of the local shops til it's time to eat. Once you're in, you've gotta try their best appetizer on the menu in my opinion. The fried pickles! Yum! Perfectly breaded, hot, and crunchy accompanied with a spicy mayo dip that's out of this world! There is so much to look at in their menus it can be overwhelming to choose. The classic buffalo wings are great. You can pick a variety of sauces, ranging from sweet honey BBQ all the way to ludicrous spicy hot. I've had sandwiches, egg platters, and the latest chicken taco salad in a crispy edible shell. My bf loves all their dishes as well, especially their buffalo chicken cheesesteak. Staff is superb, service is quick, and you will not leave this place hungry or empty handed. Love the Chegg!

We have tried a few things here. First of all the service is great and the prices are spot on for the amount of food you get. Breakfast is always good no matter what you order. Good pancakes. I'm not a wing person, but everyone talks about how good they are. The chicken taco salad, and the fish burrito are two of my favorites.

    (4)
  • Rachel S.

The boneless wings here are the best! Although they are more like chicken fingers covered in sauce...I never order anything else. The service great, just be prepared to wait if while if you go for dinner during the summer. Also love that they are open 24/7 during the summer for late night snacks!

A little confused as to what the big deal about this place is... Had the fried broccoli which was great but the wings that everyone raved about were terrible.. Wouldn't return.

It's an average dinner with a long wait for a table due to location and lack of decent places to go

Awesome, awesome, awesome is what I must say... Minus the wait so we got take out. I'm often at a loss any more for what I want to eat. I get sick allot because of a messed up surgery and frankly nothing appeals to me at all. I've wanted to try this place and I opted for the waffle with chicken tenders and sausage gravy with French fries. I didn't realize it was served chicken tenders on the waffle and at first day there looking At it. I was like ok.... However, can I say huge portion and totally DELISH SOME PEOPLE don't eat leftovers and I again ate mine for breakfast... Yes I did and happy that I didn't get sick either. I still have food left. ( that's how much food I got for 13.99) I only think I would have asked to turn my French fries into crab cheese fries... To some this combo probably sounds gross but I tasted my nephews and they were very good. You know I never mind partying even 50. For a meal I just want to enjoy it... Even if it's served I. Styrofoam. This place is a must try and next time I will take a photo. I think I will order take out for my trip home.

Delicious breakfast with a large group of friends. I got the goshdarnwich sandwich with 2 over easy eggs nestled between two fluffy slices of sweet French toast. Delicious. Only problem is that they put sides on the bill that we never received.

Breakfast any time of the day and it's good quality breakfast, however you must get the breaded wings because they are top notch in quality- I had only six with one sauce but they were better than most other wing joints (shared with my family) and I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles were a great portion and was delicious but my god the wings were the real star of the show

Our first visit. The GOOD: Seated in under 10 minutes. Clean. Big menu selection. Reasonably priced. Cinnamon bun french toast was great; chesapeake bay eggs benny was fabulous. The BAD: scrambled eggs were so-so: expected better based on the name; home-fries were horrible; coffee had bad flavor. Don't expect to see your waitstaff after the meal gets delivered.

Most f'ing awesome wings I have had. Really big pieces with lots of chicken on them. One thing to note: if you don't want to get messy then these are not for you.

The food here never disappoints. We frequent here several times during the course of the summer season. Gets quite busy during tourist season. Qe had about an hour and a half wait on Memorial Day. But the good thing is that they just text you when your table is ready so that you aren't confined to waiting in the front of the restaurant. My sister and I both love that you can get the hot wings vegetarian style (they use the Quorn chicken nuggets). They actually have quite a few vegetarian friendly options on their menu and each one I've tried has been good. I do eat seafood and ordered the seafood fest with a crab cake on our most recent trip. Very tasty and a ton of food - I brought about half of it home. My husband opted for the chicken and waffles. He said they were savory and sweet and overall delicious. The service is always good every time we go. This is definitely a nice place to check out if you're in the Beach Haven area and are in the mood for a more modern diner experience.

Please if you are ever in LBI check this place out!!!! The positives: The service is always good (which is important to me) The food always comes out fast, and hot. The decor is so unique Always clean The negatives: Its a little hot in the restaurant The bathroom is super small and always has a wait We always wait at least an hour around dinner time for a table but 100% worth it, a fun, unique restaurant with good food!

I'm normally not crazy about restaurant wings but these are hands down the best. We normally order hot or santos. You can't go wrong. The iced coffee is great the service and staff are very nice always. Huge menu it's always hard to pick there's so much to choose from !

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Well worth whatever the wait time may be(they are extremely popular). Going to the Chicken and the Egg at least twice while on vacation is a must do!!! All the food they serve is great but the wings will be the best you ever had!!!!!

Came here with friends that come to the shore often. They love this place. The Cheg is what everyone calls it. Very crowded, long wait, we waited, sat, got served, and I'm scratching my head. Why? What's the big deal here? I got it ! Not many other options around. I had the jersey chowder. They told me it was "a cross" between New England and Manhattan clam chowder. I didn't realize it was a ladle of both in the same bowl without being stirred. It looked like vomit. At least they could've stirred it prior to putting it in front of me. The garlic fries were greasy and not crispy. My friends each had the Philly cheese steak. HUGE 12 inch sandwich, could have been shared, both left with 1/2 of it. They liked it, I thought it was just ok. Their plain fries were crispy so I ate off their plate. The other friend had an omelet. Again huge, nothing special. Great service through. I prefer quality over quantity and this place is all quantity. I find in NJ that if a restaurant has a line out the door, it's are all about the quantity. They eat a lot in NJ.

Tried the Ludicrous Wing challenge last night. As featured on Man vs Food, you have to eat 12 breaded ac Z Zvezda buffalo wings coated with Ludicrous sauce in 15 minutes or less... I was confident I could do it, because my tolerance for spicy food is very high. I can eat Triple Atomic wings at Quaker Steak and Lube no problem. BUT, boy was I wrong! They were so hot, I was crying and burning by the 5th wing. I managed to get 6.5 wings down in the 15 minutes, and I am confident I could have gotten the rest down if given 30 minutes. Finished off the meal with a Cinnabon ice cream sandwich. It was gooey and delicious, and felt good cooling down my mouth and get! That being said, about 2 hours later, I was awoken with battery acid type pain in my gut that lasted all night. But, I guess that was my own fault, lol. I would still def recommend the place. Great staff, great atmosphere! Great food, as long as you know you're limits...

These are the best wings me and my girl can find anywhere in the tri state area . She took me here its one of her all time favorites and now that goes for me also ! The wings are not those tiny little pathetic wings most places have and I hate the uncut 2 whole wings that they serve in some places ... These are perfect size crispy breaded and fried just the right sauce amazing goodness . We had the medium which was just the right heat not weak not crazy and bbwhew with just right sweetness . I also had the crab cake sandwich which was A+ succulent crab cake with a delicious bun !

A great place to eat. Food is always fresh. Menu has a large variety so all tastes can be accomodated. Service is good. Food comes out in a timely manner, Can be a little noisy.

Oh mannnnn. Come here if you want to truly feel like a fat kid. And I mean that in the highest respect. I've been down to LBI numerous times but finally got to go to the magical land of Chicken or the Egg. Came here for dinner on a thursday night around 7 and there was already a 75 minute wait. I mean, it seems like there's a wait regardless of the time of day. They are open 24/7, so maybe at like 4:30 in the morning, there's no wait. We put in our name and phone number and they said they'd text us when our table is ready, so we took a walk around the block a few times and got a drink elsewhere. When our time had come, we were sat in the back of the restaurant and excitedly looked over the gigantic menu. They literally have everything on there. There is something for everyone, that's for sure. We ended up splitting the fried broccoli as an app. I got the california turkey burger and my bf got the wings. We also split a side of crabby cheese fries, which is just old bay seasoning on fries topped with melted cheese. The fried broccoli was delicious. It came with horseradish dipping sauce. Totally hit the spot after waiting hungrily. I liked the toppings on my burger more than the burger itself. It was basically like a jenny-o turkey burger. 0 flavor. I guess that's why they put so much on the burger itself. My bf said he enjoyed his wings, and we definitely both liked the fries. We left extremely full but very satisfied. I wish I could have tried more here but I probably would have exploded. I'd imagine their breakfast is amazing. Also, I think it is BYOB because they didn't sell alcohol, but we did see a lot of people bring in beer and wine. Can't wait to come here again the next time I'm down in LBI.

Fantastic spot for dinner favorites and anything with chicken and or egg. The line can get a bit long, but they move people in and out pretty quickly so it doesn't take that long. The wings here are some of the best anywhere, well breaded and crispy and smothered in delicious sauce. The Sanchez is especially delicious and the ludicrous is used for a challenge that was featured on man vs food. The breakfast is also awesome, they know how to do good things with chicken egg and cheese. The chegger sandwich was super with the beesting sauce and the skillet was very tangy and good as well. Even the coffee here was fantastic. Very good upscale dinner vibe.

3 stars for now. I've been here only twice for lunch (still haven't made it here for bfast yet) and Ive come to realize that this place is good but isn't as great as people keep saying. It's a very noisy place for families and gives a home environment feel for people. And I bet you would sure love their wall decor. The have a good variety of wing sauces to pick from, like Buffalo Wild Wings. But their entrees are OK, which I've only tried their chicken and waffles, and the thanksgiving feast. I would recommend this place for its wings and until I come for bfast, then I'll say their eggs. Since it is called "the chicken Or the egg".

If your staying in lbi or visiting for the day this should definitely be on your list. Also known as CHEGG this place has a great menu full of humor and cool things. The decor is fun with comic tables everyone loves their wings! Great food for breakfast lunch or dinner. So worth the wait.

As far as wings go this place is the *BLEEEEEP*. Went twice in one day AND bought their hot sauce to take home with me. The first time I got the mild and they were, for the lack of any better words, NOMS. The second time I asked for them non-breaded (just to taste the quality of chicken because I don't like to be played) and one of the workers cut off the music, leaned into the microphone and said,"You. Want. Them. Unbreaded?!" Imagine the stares. Especially after I aquiesced and got the wings breaded, I then noticed the speakers were piped outside. Oh the humility. Except I didn't care as I had a dozen delicious wings and I was sauntering off down the sidewalk on the prowl for that bench in the park to snarf in the dark. "Snarf in the Dark" sounds like a Dr. Seuss novel and, just because of that, you should give it a whirl -- perhaps you will be inspired to write children's books. Or maybe you will just enjoy some good wings.

My boyfriend and I did our mini vacation to LBI for labor day and we ended up here twice! Man oh man is the food, atmosphere and staff all GREAT! We also loved the no-wait app, so we could saunter around and they'd text us when our table was ready. Best wings ive ever had in my life- killer bee sting sauce was sooo good! I cant wait to be back!

3.5/4 stars. I have to preface this review by saying that I'm borderline black-out drunk by the time I get here. With that being said, it's one hell of a greasy-spoon...from what I can remember. Dozen killer beesting wings is a great way to start. Their wraps and sandwiches taste fantastic after a dozen drinks into the night. I've seen a man take-down the fat chegg, it ain't pretty, but it apparently hits the spot. I was disappointed to see that the "Chicken and Waffles" is actually chicken fingers (strips) not what I expected. But the sausage gravy (of the gravy and biscuits ilk) topping diminishes some of the disappointment. The rest of the menu is a blur, but I'm sure there's other good options.

Had the 'Zapper' wings because I wanted my meal to be enjoyable, not an ordeal. But hooray, they also sell their Ludicrous sauce in a bottle. Really tasty wings. My wife had the Buffalo shrimp, kids had mozzarella sticks and French toast. All in all the service was attentive, the food was good and fresh, the portions were reasonable (but not outrageous) -- and especially relevant for LBI: the prices were very affordable for a family on their vacation. I'd definitely come back again.

  • Sarah H.

everyone should try this place at least one time. there is a new app now that you can put your self on their waiting list to cut the wait time a little shorter bc it is absolutely crazy to wait to eat here sometimes ... they have vegetarian options too

  • Audrey K.

If you don't want to wait, get take-out. The place is a mob-scene for good reason: the food is awesome. It is fresh, plentiful and offered at great prices. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have been lucky enough to sit in the eclectic, "funky-fresh" dining room and have ordered take out on a number of occasions. The breakfast dishes are delicious but my favorite menu items are the fried pickles (WOWWWWWW is the only word for these) and the buffalo chicken (or shrimp) salad- I've tried it both ways and it's simply the best salad I've ever had anywhere. The upshot: eat here. People are willing to wait lengthy times because the place is that good. If you're I a rush, place an order to go. Thank you Chegg, I'll continue to come back again and again!

I have been here many times over the years...There are often lines to get in. Why? Because long ago in the times back when the first 2 numbers in the year were 19 this was one of the only places around Beach Haven that served breakfast. This place has professional long time waitstaff who do a fine job of getting ya in and out while building the check AND delivering great service. Their presumably professional long time kitchen staff is somehow hobbled - they serve certainly edible food, even decent food but with little effort (or perhaps better quality INGREDIENTS) I think they could do a better job. On our only visit this summer the turkey sausage patties were somehow 'off' nicly cooked but off and not stale or rancid just a weird flavor/taste while they were well cooked. They do ok with eggs and burgers but many items like hash browns or the fruit in their fruit plates leave something to be desired. If you go expect ok food at an ok (for LBI) price, nothing more.

Every year our family and extended family rent a house down the shore in LBI. It is mandatory that we partake in at least one meal at the the Chicken or the Egg while we are there. The food never disappoints. Great variety, taste and atmosphere. The food is a bit pricey, but not so much that we would ever be turned off from going.

    (4)

This place is awesome! Always good service and the food never disappoints. If you come you have to try their famous wings because the hype is well warranted. Highly Recommend to anyone in the area

Best place down the shore! The wings, especially breaded are delicious. I reccommend the fantastic Original hot sauce. The other range of home made sauces are amazing as well. The breakfast is top notch. The real gem- the buffalo chicken cheesesteak with a vanilla milkshake. Wish the place was bigger as wait times are very long, but the secret is to get take out. 15 mins tops. Best drunk food as well. Staff is very friendly and service top notch.

Uh....no. I've tried this place every so often over the years and never had anything that thrilled me - at best it's edible, at worst it's completely awful. I always think "well, I must have ordered the wrong thing because everyone loves this place" but it's just not that great. We got breakfast this time and I ordered a basic egg/turkey sausage/biscuit meal - let me break it down. One would hope a restaurant could at least fry an egg and they could - the eggs were fine. The biscuit was decent, oh if only it wasn't cold I might have actually complimented it - but who wants a cold biscuit? Not this chick. Things went downhill rapidly from there with the four thin, over processed, greasy preformed patties of weird tasting turkey sausage that looked like they came from some nightmarish freezer in a forlorn, going out of business discount ghetto warehouse. In hell. Followed closely by the obviously prefrozen "hash browns" that were so dried up and tasted so oily I almost took them home to fix that squeak in the door. If it was a fresh oil taste I might have but I didn't want old oil on my hinges. Hubby did order the special fruit plate and it looked lovely - looks can be deceiving though and the fruit was hit and miss taste wise and the long brown rotten section we had to cut around on the cantaloupe was not exactly appetizing. I would have loved one homemade turkey sausage (here's the recipe Chef, ground turkey and sage) much more then four disgusting ones. Also is it so hard to bake a potato, chop it up and fry it? Service was good but that didn't make up for the bad parts. Seriously I would have enjoyed breakfast at McDonalds more.

Love this place, and it is always packed. I usually go with a large group of people and they always seem to have a place to put us without a problem. Great vibe and the servers are on the J.O.B. always, and the food is wonderful too.

Always a good time at The Chegg! Extremely friendly staff Quick seating Quick service Quick food Delicious food!!! Downside is the 1 ladies restroom, for the volume of diners at one given time they really should have a larger bathroom and it was pretty warm in the restaurant (which normally I like because I hate being cold!) but we just got off the hot beach so a little more air would have been nice!

Love this place! The food is fantastic & there's always a wait so you know it's gonna be good. Try the pork with sandwich which is awesome.. One of my favorite places to eat on LBI..

Nice place to go to get something to eat. Very artsy sorta place, not like any place Ive ever been to. I had one of their egg sandwiches which comes with home fries. I would say it was around average, nothing spectacular. Based on all these other reviews I'm gonna try this place for lunch and have the wings. The service was good, coffee average. Place is always busy so be prepared to wait.

My gals and I stopped by here to pick up some grub pre-beaching. The line around 11am on a Saturday was out the door! Thankfully, their take-out line is a lot smaller and the sweet cashier told us a sweet spot on the beach where we could sit and eat. A bunch of us ordered rather different things, but the standout dish was definitely their crab cake benedict. The crab cake was divine! In an attempt to be somewhat healthy, I ordered the california wrap which was just fine. It did come with a few pieces of watermelon which was nice & refreshing! Chegg is famous for their wings, so of course we had to order a few to go. The wings were pretty meaty and the Beesting sauce was a treat. My friend bought a bottle of their spiciest sauce for her bf and I am happy to report that it rivals the 53rd&6th hot sauce in the "definite blow a hole in your butt the next morning" category :P

We usually hit this place when we're on LBI. What we didn't know when we went, is that Wednesday is Wing Night. 5 wings for $3, your choice of sauce. Can't beat this deal. Why not 5 stars? Charging extra for Blue Cheese :-(

    (4)
  • Mike B.

You can always count on Chegg for a fun and friendly meal! We drove about 50 minutes to get there, it's always worth the trip when you have a car-load of people to go with or a group of people to meet! Tonight, I had the veggie wings with their "killer beesting" sauce.... Banging.

    (4)
  • Mike K.

No trip to LBI would be complete without a visit (or two or three) to "Chegg". They truly have the tastiest wings and whether you like them mild or hot, garlicky or sweet, they have a sauce for you. Besides the wings, which are mandatory, they also have great breakfast options (which can also include wings) in case you have a craving in the AM. The waits can be long in the summer so get your name on the list then go shop at the Silver Sun Mall. Or better yet, download the app and put your name on the list before you leave home!

I loved this place! I spent a week in Beach Haven for some R & R and my only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner! The food is DELICIOUS & the prices are very reasonable. They're known for the wings, but I've grown partial to the jumbo fried shrimp. The look of the place is really cool too, & my other MAJOR regret about not finding this place sooner is that it's BYOB. Which I didn't figure out until I was leaving the last time I was there. This place was enough to bring me back to Beach Haven!

  • Anthony N.

My mission here was to eat wings and mission accomplished. I ordered the wings. I ate the wings. They were great. I put them in the top 3. I got them naked even though the originals are breaded. To me a wing is not a wing if it is breaded. Then it becomes some KFC or Popeye's dish with sauce on it. I got the spicy garlic sauce which was just right. Not to hot. Service was good and quick. My kids had a waffle that was simple and pretty good. My girlfriend got wings too but she got them breaded and some other sauce that I cannot remember (bbqy garlic spicy). She was a fan but she left one on the plate which any wing eater knows you just don't do. Wait time was surprising low, under 15 minutes. If you are in LBI I can vouch for this place. There were many places that were "go to" places that just let me down. This place lives up to its name (Chegg) and its reputation.

I came in here on a Saturday night, alone (yes I am an empowered female:)l) and saw the line around the corner in late September. Must be a good sign in this late season. I had dined here before a while back and had the wings but not a big memory. So I decided to order to go and I must admit I am a pretty picky eater, ok actually I am a foodie and I love vegetables and veggie cuisine. Its so hard to find, and this place has MANY options for veggie lovers In my mind I created a sandwich and the nice girl at the counter was so incredbly patient and friendly with me, i was astounded and amazed, since relocating from Florida recently where customer service is horrendous and people are miserable. She took my order (i basically wanted to combine the "Shroom" sandwich with the "Veggie Steak" hoagie. I wanted the base of portabello topped with fresh mozz, spinach , red pepper and sauteed onions. Yeah i know i got good taste, plus i added some chipotle may for some kick. So when the sandwich came out it was not what I imagined in my mind, it was on a hoagie roll and the mushrooms were all cut up and it mostly was cheese, yuck , too much lactose for this girl. So in my 30s I have embraced myself and my appetite fully, and I dont feel bad about ordering what i want because i am paying for it, i told her it wasn't what i really wanted and actually decided to draw a picture. The kitchen girl came out confused but willing to work with me. Okay 2nd time, came out , looked perfect, amazing portabello, thick and steak-y like a good one should be , nice onion rings on side golden. Okay i left happy but not as happy as when i got home and took the 1st bite THIS WAS THE BEST DAMN PORTABELLO SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD!! THANK THE LORD : Best money i have spent on a meal in years. I was so exited over it, that i had to save the 2nd half for next day. I love them for doing what i wanted and not complaining, from not giving me weird looks, counter girl was awesome and cooks awesome. It took me 5 days to get to writing this but this place deserves all the props it can get. I even want to work there its so good.:)

I am definitely a big fan of "Chegg". The service was efficient...major plus. The portions are substantial and the price is reasonable. I loved the menu as it is expansive, creative and has out of the ordinary, atypical breakfast fare. There is definitely a long, long wait during the summer so I never visited until this October when I was visiting LBI for a wedding. What a pleasant surprise this place turned out to be and I wish I had discovered it sooner! :) I am planning to return again and again!

Just went there for the first time after six years of living in the area. Always heard so many good things about this place. We went for dinner and I have to say I was disappointed. I ordered the sea food combo and maybe that was my mistake. It was very very bland. No flavor at all just cooked sea food. I expected so much more from this place. I guess I will try it again based on their reputation but next time ill go for breakfast.

Always eat here a few times every summer. More of a fan of their breakfast than there dinner, but everything I've had here is pretty good... Also a big fan of the late night hours, always a great crowd during the night!

Stopped by for dinner recently. The place was packed and so we had to wait for about an hour. Hostess desk took our cell number and alerted us via text when table was ready. That allowed us the freedom to roam around Beach Haven while we waited. Pretty cool in and of itself. By the time we got seated we all new what we wanted...clam chowder with some hot sauce for an extra kick, chicken wings, fried pickles, chicken and waffles, pork burger, and chicken and shrimp over pasta with sun dried tomatoes, olives, onions, and peppers all smothered in vodka sauce. Every dish was awesome, but the chicken and waffles really took the cake! Never had it before, but my gf and my friends wife both got it an got to try some. Now I'm hooked!!! Portions were plenty so made for some great left overs the following day. Food was just as good reheated, but then again I love me some leftovers. Service was great. Waitress was really nice and attentive without being overbearing or rushing us (despite the line out the door). Only reason I gave it a 4 out of five was because i can't give it a 4.5 and the wait. All that waiting around just made me hungrier and I ended up ordering more than I needed to eat. Regardless I can't wait to be in the area again so I can go back!

The wings are a MUST!!! Highly suggest getting the bone wings and breaded. I usually like boneless other places, but here you gotta go regular wings! The wings are gigantic, so I recommend getting only 6. Each wing is about 3 times the size of a normal one! The Chegg is a sauce-lover's dream. I'm obsessed with all of them, from Santos Sauce to Swamp Sauce to Killer Beesting. You'll want to lick the sauce off your plate, it's that good!! I think the blue cheese is homemade- by far the best I've ever had! You can also get the sauces on other entrees, woo hooo! I've had a Buffalo Chicken Cheesesteak with Killer Beesting and it was amazing! The lines are long, but only because The Chegg is so fantastic!! Things move quick and the service is great.

My go-to place on LBI. The best food there or on the Jersey Shore altogether. Open 24 hours with fun, kind, hard-working staff, their menu contains pages of delicious options - everything from comfort food to fancy food and everything in between. Love their breakfast "eggwiches" and their home fries are the best I've ever had. Their wings are huge and come in a multitude of flavors. I find it hard to pick from all my favorite items on their menu but always make sure I get a cup of their New England chowda.

  • Lindsay K.

Can't get enough of this place!!! We come here every year while vacationing down LBI. All their food is amazing! We had to try the wings of course, so we got the killer beesting sauce, which was totally delicious!! Then we tried the obscene sauce which is one level under the hottest they make and it was actually good!!! Granted my mouth and throat were on fire but it was hilarious! Loved it! Always a great time! Will def be back!

Definitely one of the coolest places to eat in LBI. The place was crowded with a line out the door but still got seated within 10 minutes for a party of two. Everything on the menu looks amazing but I went with the Carolina cookout. Barbecue chicken breast, pulled pork and half a rack of ribs. All of it was retarded good. No offense to the politically correct morons out there. I would've preferred homemade macaroni and cheese over Kraft but still awesome food. Lisa had the vodka chicken and shrimp which was a huge portion and delicious. I finished the leftovers for lunch yesterday. I would love to hit this place after a night out at the bars and try some of their great-looking breakfast options. Definitely a a must visit if you're in LBI.

This place was so great the 1st morning we went there, we opted to return the next day. The food was terrific... the kids loved all the deco all around us, and the staff was really fantastic the 1st day we were there! (Took one star away because the 2nd day our waitress wasn't quite attentive; but moreso because one of the girls behind the counter was spraying cologne.perfume all over her hoodie, within a minute we had this overwhelming perfume smell take over our whole area. HIGHLY recommend a stop here... the hostess(es) are super friendly. Great place!

We ordered a chowder cup, Manhattan chowder cup, poppers, fat chegg wrap, a variety of un-breaded wings and a basket of sweat potatoes. Everything was DELICIOUS! Definitely a must-visit place @LBI, especially if you're a fan of chicken. The "bee sting" wing flavor was very good (recommended by Chegg). We did take-out, but for those dining-in, the wait on Friday @6pm was over an hour - so plan accordingly.

Eating here for years food is always good. Wings are the best on the island and probably all of the jersey shore. Original hot is my favorite wing sauce and Mac and cheese is always a good side. They have come back strong after the hurricane and will continue to be a staple whenever I'm on the island.

The hour and twenty minute wait was tough, but the meal was tasty and our server was attentive despite the full restaurant. Our group sampled the naked wings both med and hot and they were some of the best wings we have had. The goshdarwich was also quite a dish. I enjoyed breakfast for dinner. The apple crumble french toast was also worth a try. The Chicken cheese steak was shredded chicken cheese and sauce in a hoagie roll. A good alternative to cheese steak. Worth a visit, but be prepared for the wait with a pair of walking shoes, so you can visit the shops up and down the road until its your turn.

Four and a half stars for what they are - an upscale diner with a clean upbeat , hip upbeat atmosphere. Open 24 hours and always service breakfast. They have good lunch and dinner entrees too. They have wings if course but a great chicken pot pie , salads and sandwiches. Expect a short wait but on LBI there is not an equal with choice and value.

This place is always gonna be great. Best wings you will ever ever have, I don't care what anyone says. Crazy waits and occasional infuriating takeout order screw-ups aside, it's hard not to 5 star this gem. Don't be fooled by any bad reviews--The Chegg lives up to the hype. Legendary.

Haven't been here in years. Took a drive from North Jersey for the day just to take my wife for some wings. The service was good, not as good as I remembered. The wings were awesome, great sauce, nice tang. The chowder was actually delicious too. Good place to try when the town is not at the peak of Summer, you could wait for hours. Try off peak, right before the season ends, the whole island is better.

Probably one of the best restaurants around. Food is awesome! Service is fast. Portions are huge. Can't beat it!

It's fun, it's delicious, it's a tradition. Every time I go to LBI this is a must. Usually I eat here 3-4 times a week if I'm on vacation. From breakfast to lunch, to late night snacks, the food is fresh, delicious, unique, and consistently good. Very casual, laid-back place. A million wing sauces to choose from. OK, now I want to drive down here and get some Chegg. Be patient and wait on line, have fun.

Crabby cheese fries are unstoppable. The old bay is in the batter , not just sprinkled on. Best ever. Get wings or breakfast. If you get other stuff don't complain that it's not perfect

I always stop here when im down the jersey shore. if you have never been here it is a must try. the food is always great and service is amazing. my go to food is the chicken and waffles, amazing, but everything here is great. if its your first time you have to try the ludicrous sauce...ultra hot so order a side of ice cream with it and don't touch your face!!! the only downside is that there is always a wait but that's not a big deal anymore because they now have messaging system that will text you when your table is ready.

Chicken or the Egg has been a staple in my life for the past ten years. My family and I vacation on Long Beach Island every summer, and we come here multiple times during our stay. The same people have been working there for years, and their friendliness, cool, calm and collected beach attitudes and overall excellent rapport with customers have been intact for the ten years I've been going, too. Chicken or the Egg is famous for a lot of things, namely their Buffalo wings and similar chicken creations with over a dozen sauces to choose from and their clam chowder. Everything else on the menu is amazingly homemade and amazingly delicious. There is a full breakfast menu, similar to that of a diner, the chicken section, salads, sandwiches, burgers, "homestyle" foods (chicken and waffles, big Italian pasta dishes, etc.). Soul-food, heart-food, dream-food. Long Beach Island has a Clam Chowder festival every year, and their clam chowder has beat out everyone else several times. I've had many different places' clam chowders on the island over the years, and Chicken or the Egg's is definitely the ultimate one, absolutely to live for. The place usually has a thirty-minute wait at 5pm, so get there EARLY. Plus, the earlier the better - they have an excellent early bird special menu that comes with soup or salad, an entrée and dessert! Speaking of dessert, the options include chocolate pudding, ice cream or homemade bread pudding. Yum! The decor inside is awesome. Vintage, nostalgic stuff is everywhere, totally cool. My family and I feel at home when we come to the Chicken or the Egg. It's the place to be for good food and good times.

The wait time in season is ridiculous but the service is friendly and courteous. Their wings are the ways good wings should be, meaty, tender and with just the right amount of kick to be flavorful. The decor is cheeky yet works with LBI's personality. A local must go!

This. Place. Is. The. Shiznit! Such a shame they are not opened in the winter time, because I typically avoid LBI like the plague in the summer. Otherwise, I'd make it a point to try to go down as much as I could. First things first, the wings or more aptly, their wing sauce. My philosophy with this stuff is that if my eyes aren't watering, it's not nearly hot enough. When I saw that the extra hot sauce was $0.79 extra over the other stuff (I think I got the beesting as my "main" sauce), I asked the server for some on the side. Folks, I have found it. I have found the hottest hot sauce. A sauce so hot that I can't even eat it! OK back to the review. This place is very small. It's got one bathroom per gender, and it can get lines quickly (esp. the females). I once got in a fight with a lady when there were long lines that she was potty training her daughter at an inappropriate time. Dope. But it's not enough of a detractor for me to not go, because I'd only be hurting myself if I didn't go to TCOTE. Basically anything buffalo sauced is ok in my book. I LOVE the Buffalo fries, now I can't think of fries without having buffalo and bleu cheese on it. I also tried their buffalo tender salad - very good, yummy. Their breakfasts were just a'ight though, I mean, in NJ esp South Jersey it should be hard to mess up a Taylor ham, egg and cheese. They kinda did :(. Also their fried seafood platter, sounds a lot better than it is. Just an FYI. But there are many other things on here, you can not have it and be satisfied! Oh and they had a Chicken and Waffles special with sausage gravy. I was so jealous when my husband got this at the table. It was a special too so chances are, it's not on the menu a lot :(. Overall, this is a staple of the LBI community. Don't miss it.

This place gets 5 stars because every year I'm completely drawn to it at least once. Growing up on the Jersey Shore, you have to go to this place. Be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a drunken post bar stop. The drunken stops are the worst, they tend to lead to me trying the ludicrous wings and that is never a good idea. I have spent many a night ending up here. I also spent many a hungover morning here. As I get older I'm drawn back for the memories and the awesome food at least twice a year, maybe more. My latest visit had me going for the killer bee sting breaded wings. Hot with a nice taste. The wings are awesome. Everything is awesome. A must stop on LBI.

  • Vin M.

Food is great. Everything on the menu looks awesome although I've never been able to bring myself to order anything but wings because they are so awesome. Maybe one day I'll try something else. This place gets busy, but moves fast. Food comes out of the kitchen quick. And if there is a long line or wait to be seated, the hostess will check you in on an ipad and send you a text message when your table is ready so you don't have to stand around waiting. More places need to get with the 21st century and embrace technology like this.

Fantastic! As a vegetarian, I was anticipating limited options and was ecstatic to find a vegetarian section on the menu! I visited this establishment on two occasions, within 2 days, and had no problem waiting 30+ minutes (each time) to be seated. Well worth the wait. As a fan of heat and spice, I thoroughly enjoyed the veggie chicken wing wrap with the santos sauce. My entree of choice was accompanied by the crabby fries (old bay seasoning topped with an American cheese sauce), which is easily comparable to those that one would consume at Chickie's and Pete's. My boyfriend and I shared a delicious Oreo milkshake while he chowed down wings that made him cry (happily), and a chicken cheese steak. Put your name in, shop around, and get ready to chow down! One of a kind

The Chicken or the Egg or Chegg as the locals call it is a nifty little restaurant located along the the main drag running form LBI to Beach Haven. I never really frequented the LBI area much as a cherub, but was led to Chegg after watching the Jersey Shore edition of Man v Food and hearing from a few LBI beachgoers that it was pretty legit. So we took a (sorta) road trip to LBI to seek out the tasty goodness that we were hearing so much about. Chegg has a very large menu with, you guessed it, specialties that include chicken or egg. This is the kind of place where you want to try everything on the menu because it all looks so intriguing. I fully regret not getting the wings, since I walked by many other tables on the way to the restroom, which held glistening plates of goodness that all looked more than appetizing. Instead I opted for a chicken sandwich and chose the bee sting sauce as my sauce of choice. The bee sting sauce is an interesting mix of buffalo sauce with the sweetness of honey that delivers a little kick. In other words, this is sauce is BANGIN. I also ordered a small order of fries, which were very crispy and addicting. The servers at Chegg are very friendly and seem like they like to have fun with their customers. Our server could have checked on us a bit more, but this was only a minor speed bump in a rather good experience. In closing, it would be "fowl" of you to come to Beach Haven, without checking out The Chicken or the Egg.

I think we got luck between rain storms when we were able to just walk in a get a seat. Every time we've ever driven by, its been a long line with numerous people waiting outside. I have to say that they had a good menu, good ambiance and a nice setting. The food wasn't as great as I had heard, and the service was average at best. Once we got our order placed, the waitress came by just to bring us our food and and never asked how we were doing. She just brought us the bill next. I'd go back though, because I think perhaps I just caught the waitress on a bad day

Whenever I am in LBI The CHEG prepares food that is truly one of my favorite on the island. Note that I choose my words carefully, "prepares food" because I rarely have a chance to experience the service of this establishment because the wait is typically more than an hour and more often close to two hours. This has been the case for several years and kudos to any owner that can establish such tasty food that keeps'em coming back again and again. I just now walked away from The CHEG after being told it is a TWO hour wait. They may just have well told me they can't serve me or that it would be better off ordering take out. The fact that they continuously operate with the mentality that it just too f'ng bad, the customers will just have to wait or go somewhere else is truly a disappointment. There is no doubt that if they chose to expand the size of their dining room, walk-in wait time to be seated would decrease and volume of business would increase. This last experience has frustrated me and led me to take the time to post this criticism. I believe that telling loyal patrons to wait that long is an insult and shows complete disregard and disrespect. I write this realizing that my post will most likely mean nothing to them but I still write to let them know that it's long overdue to treat their patrons with more consideration and add more tables and shorten the wait.

Stopped by for a midnight snack: I stepped into this time machine (a.k.a. CHEGG) and traveled back in time a few years. Setting: high school cafeteria. The front entrance and dining area were both packed with teenagers, but they're all just doing their own thing and minding their own business. So, here I am -- back in high school, sitting across from a girl I have a huge crush on, and with an extensive menu of indulgent junk food (I mean this in the best way possible) in my hands. I'd eat everything on this menu if I could -- it all looked really good. We were already contemplating coming back the next day to try more off the menu before we had even tried anything once! My girl had a cinnamon bun with ice cream, and I had an order of fries tossed in one of the signature CHEGG BBQ sauces. Both indulgent, equally delicious. Will definitely be retuning next time while in LBI!

On the plus side - Good, quick service, good variety of food. They have about 10 different spiciness levels for wings, from mild, jamaican jerk all the way up to very hot. The negatives - it seems to be very loud, all the time. I don't usually care for very loud places, so keep this in mind if you're going during a peak time (Sunday morning, Saturday night, etc). Also their coffee is pretty weak. Generally, good, consistent food & service, at a reasonable (especially for LBI) price.

Every year we make a trip to the "Chegg" for wings and every year it fails to disappoint. Maybe it's the laid back atmosphere....the attentive but not overbearing staff....or the very funny owner/manager joking with the customers. But the place just works. Wings are tasty. Medium naked are my preferred. Not overly spicey but very flavorful.

Springtime is here, and that means it's time for some local favorites to open. Today I write about Chicken or the Egg. This place is close to my heart, as we spent many breakfasts there when our daughters were younger. Today, I send my girls there for wing night, and they return with wings, and in this case a cheese burger. I'm sure there will be those offended by t his, but I get the distinct feeling that kids are running the show, and quality has taken a big hit. Because of it. I'll grant you, if your and 18 year old looking to meet up with friends, I get it. But the Stevester needs to feed the monster, so I'll stick with the food. Wings, not real good. I had some garlic spice wings, and honey bar-b-q. I just couldn't find the taste. It was ok, but not awesome. Garlic spice was overwhelming. I guess it did have taste, but I'm not sure what I was tasting. The honey bar-b-q was sticky and sweet. Again, nothing outstanding. Quality was standard fast food level. Today, we ordered a cheeseburger and fries to go. The hamburger was overcooked, but acceptable. I found it comical. That there was one slice of cheese, a very small slice of tomato, and one small leaf of lettuce. oh, and no sign of any fries. Look, I get it. This is a beach dive. But we've been there many times through the years, and the drop off in quality is noticeable. Not too late to fix. Hope they take the time to fix, because we expect more.

OK, but I don't get it. It's a diner. You're going to wait an hour, that's a given. But the payoff is tolerable diner food. I've been going to LBI for years and have managed to avoid the Chegg because I didn't want to deal with the wait, and whatever, there's lots of places to eat. But the mystique and the legend got the best of my family, and we endured the wait, and we had an OK meal at a fair price, just as we would have at Fred's up the block, where there would've been less of a wait. On the plus, the service was wonderful, and the place is fun to be in. It's whimsically decorated, and it's always packed so there's a lot of energy. For these reasons, I give the Chegg three instead of two stars. On the minus, I simply disagree with what they consider an "omelette." I ordered the Loaded Potato Omelette, expecting that the broccoli and potatoes and onions would be cooked with the eggs, into the omelette, because -- and I'm coming from a place of considerable experience here -- I believe that's how an omelette is made. But all the ingredients seem to have been cooked separately and then wrapped in a paper-thin egg blanket, like a crepe, or an enchilada, but NOT like an omelette. Moreover, I question the freshness of the broccoli, and noticed that it had a distinct pickled smell and flavor that introduced an unpleasant, sauer-kraut-ish element to my "omelette." The rest of my family had no objections to their meals (eggs benedict -- OK, respect for pulling that off -- pancakes, egg sandwich), but neither were they blown away by the quality or innovation. Bottom line: If you're willing to wait an hour, but only in exchange for outstanding food and a memorable experience, go to the Clam Bar on Centre Street, not the Chegg.

Huge portions. Their omelets are fabulous. I prefer them to those served down the block at Uncle Will's, but I liked Uncle Will's pancakes better. Friendly, fast service. Accepts credit cards.

This is one of those places that looks like it will be better than it really is. During the summer waits are common and the dining room is crowded and loud. Meals range from breakfast through late night snacks, so there is plenty to choose from. Unfortunately, most of it is of average quality. The one thing that does stand out is their wings. Good size and a good variety of tasty choices. They are what pull them up to three stars from two. Service is average at best. There are better places to go on LBI - unless your looking for wings.

  • Andrew V.

The absolute best wings on the island. I love the atmosphere and the food!! So good it's worth the wait for a table! Pretty fancy wait too. You can give them your cell number and will text you when your table is ready!! So shop away haha

A surprisingly 'meh' experience for a highly Yelp rated place... Service: Good. Friendly, prompt. Only a 20 minute wait when they were packed (and that's exactly what they said it'd be). Point for thinking ahead: I mentioned that I would have a second cup of coffee to go, "but not just yet" as I wanted it fresh when we left. About ten minutes later, when we were finished, our server brought me a cup to go, and our check. Very happy with that. Atmosphere: Good. Awesome artwork, very fun. Busy (for breakfast at least), even at the end of the season (Sept). Food: Double meh.... not impressed. Not worth the wait. Pretty much raw produce in my omelet.. how'd they "cook" it? Microwave? Reheated potatoes, w/some seasoned salt thrown on them, mostly on the center... Not going back.

The fact that this place has four and a half stars is some kind of cruel joke. We actually drove all the way down from North Beach because of the Yelp rating. What a colossal letdown. We went for breakfast this week. It was laughable. The star is for the nice waitress and the coffee. The food was all microwaved, every bit of it, from the vile scrambled egg concoctions (with almost no detectable eggs) to the rubbery, cold, pancakes to the sorry excuse for a biscuit. Avoid this place like the plague. There have got to be better breakfast options on LBi!

My favorite place to eat in ALL of Long Beach Island, better yet ALL of New Jersey! Such a robust menu to choose from but I would suggest getting anything that allows you to Buffalize your choice of eating (meaning choosing from 1 of 15-16 sauces). They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner being opened 24 hours a day, people! So I went off menu on this (yes the rebel in me) and ordered the Pork Fries while my lady ordered the Buffalo Fries with Buffalo sauce. The Pork Fries starts with the fries buffalized with Honey Sweet BBQ stacked with pulled pork stacked with melted cheese and bacon (BACON, people, BACON!). Congratulations! This is my new favorite thing until the next favorite thing! That ought to fill you up for a day or two (Ignored health tips on this obvious cheat day). We did take out for this occasion because of how packed this place can get but the food is still worth it. There's a reason why this place is always talked about, dont be a chicken and come on down for this Egg-cellent foodie adventure....oh jeez, i brought back the puns (PUNS, people, PUNS!)

Chegg is money! There is nothing better than sitting down on wing night with a bucket of cheap beer and just crushing multiple orders of wings for 3 hours until you can no longer move. Breakfast is average, but if you are going there you should be getting some kind of buffalo by product. Sauces are awesome. Only drawback is the crowd. You have to plan on going early and putting your name in and then walking around killing time from anywhere from 1/2 hour to 2 hours. If you are starving pick another place, otherwise it's worth waiting. been going to chegg for years and the place is as consistent as it gets.

Love the CHEGG, love it! Love the fact that Man v. Food was here too, because they deserve it! Only talkin' wings, the rest of the food is good, however. So many different types of wings, all worthy of trying to find your preference. Get some sweet, some spicy, and some flavorful. My personal fav's are - Hickory, Jamaican Jerk, Garlic, and Honey (somethin or other). If you wanna be a brave soul, try the Suicidal, which will make you shit fire. Not an exaggeration. YOU WILL SHIT FIRE! Alas, essentially every summer, my family and I all (mostly everyone) have 1 for fun. I know, it's pretty dumb to say fun, but it's a funny thing to watch. As long as LBI is around (pending certain natural disasters), I will come here. The only 24 hour spot, as far as I know on the island, that is actually worth your time.

  • Erin O.

By far the best wings on the island, if not, in ocean county. Always a go-to for me and my family. Service here is also great. One of my favorite (somewhat new) additions is when they ask for your phone number when there is a long wait and then you get a text message when your table is going to be ready in 15 minutes, 5 minutes, etc. This allows you to go out shopping, stop by Fantasy Island, or take a quick swim at the beach. Genius idea for fantastic restaurant!

  • Renee D.

Better than any diner food you will ever eat. The bee-sting wing sauce is an all time favorite for me. The wait time in the Summer is over the top, sometimes 2 hours, so we try to get our fill pre-post season. Its a right of passage...visit for Breakfast , lunch, dinner or late night. Its all good!

DO NOT come to this restaurant for any meal other than breakfast! (And even the breakfast is just plain mediocre.) The only good part of The Chicken or the Egg is the fact that it's open 24/7, but unless you're a big partier or a twenty-something, you shouldn't be eating at 3 a.m. anyway. We ordered takeout at around 8 p.m. and picked it up about 15 minutes later. The food was ready pretty quickly despite the line out the door, but the food quality completely ruined it for us. I got their "pork burger", a burger with bacon and pulled pork on top of it, figuring it would be simple and good. I asked for a lettuce wrap since I can't eat the bun and they said they'd put it on the side, but they forgot to throw it in there. The burger was THE WORST hamburger I have EVER had in my life. COMPLETELY inedible. I took a few bites and forced the other members of my group to take a taste and verify that I wasn't crazy and everyone agreed that it was disgusting. Not only was it pink (when I had ordered medium-well), it was clearly awful meat, the outside was charred, and the whole burger was rock hard. I LOVE hamburgers and even eat fast-food ones but this was completely ridiculous. I pushed it to the side and ate the pulled pork which was good but very fatty and the barbecue sauce they provided was overly sweet and seemed like some bottled junk from the supermarket. The bacon on the burger was covered in grease and was mostly fat (not crunchy at all) so i could NOT eat it. SUPER disappointing considering they pride themselves on breakfast foods and bacon is tough to screw up. Another person with me had the New England clam chowder and it was completely congealed when we sat down to eat. She stirred it and it looked like a vat of fat, so it got pushed to the side. We also got a side of mashed potatoes that seemed packaged/processed and the potatoes were overly salted and seasoned. NOT homemade. The whole experience was a massive disappointment and I wish I could properly convey just how miserable the hamburger they prepared for me was. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant and I have no clue why their rating is so high. Most of the ratings rave about breakfast but breakfast is pretty simple to do and I don't know what could make theirs so spectacular.

Decent breakfast with a good selection to choose from. A few steps up from a dinner. Lines to get into the place can be daunting especially in season. Perhaps one of the best places on LBI to get breakfast.

Chegg is great for any meal of the day, including 2AM. My favorite are the boneless wings, but all the food I've had over the years is great. Breakfast is a big hit with some of my friends. Waits are long in the summer, so call ahead for take-out.

Had the local yolkal (check that spelling) with some of the in-house hot sauce and it was good. I'm a vegetarian so I asked for the bacon on a separate plate and someone else ate it. But, the eggs, potatoes and pancakes were good.

CHEGG! I cannot say enough nice things about this place! Love their creative (and mouthwatering) eats, friendly staffers with incredible memories (like our server this past week that remembered what we ordered the day before!), and quirky environment. My top 3 picks from Chegg in no particular order: 1 Buffalo Chegger - Grilled chicken sandwich slathered in your choice of Chegg sauce, cheese, and a fried egg on a roll with a side of homefries. I love the garlic spice sauce while my fiance's favorite is the Santos. 2. Sloppy Fries - French fries covered in cheesy and sloppy joe goodness. I got these while sober last year but I bet they taste even better when a bit tipsy. 3. Eggs Chesapeake - A rendition of eggs benedict with crab cakes and bacon instead of canadian bacon. Only served till 1pm, though, so get there early. I MUST try their cinnamon bun ice cream sandwich someday. If someone from the Chegg is reading this, please don't take that item off the menu until I have a chance to sink my teeth into it! :)

Great selection of kid friendly/slobbering drunk food. I was so angry that I had to eat healthy at this place because I wanted to eat their junk food so bad. Stay away from the grilled chicken plate. Its boring and dry. Stick with bacon and all of the oter fried and greasy plates. Its well worth it.

Loved that this place had all hours, and it was perfect drunk food, even though we weren't drunk at the time when we went. I had the chicken pot pie, and it was absolutely perfect and delicious. Go here if you're in Beach Haven looking for casual but AMAZING comfort food!

I loveeeeeeeee Chegg. I mean, I love the onslaught of reasonably priced fried chicken and side sauces that I get to encounter once every year or so here. Surprisingly enough, I actually really love that you can get a huge salad for $5.99 here too. Perfect compliment to the slightlyyyyy unhealthier wings and tenders that you're bound to order. Only reason they don't get five stars? The atrocious service we received here last week. Truly a rare sight to see a waitress who cared as little about tending to our table as the one we had. Completely inattentive (spent most of her time laughing with coworkers at the kitchen window) and straight up rude when she eventually made her way to our table. Such a shame since the rest of our meal was so enjoyable. Anyway, one bad egg isn't enough to keep me from the Chegg. P.S. The wait is usually 1-2 hours, so get there early to put your name down and go hang out around Fantasy Island for a bit until your table's ready.

The summer before eight grade, I stayed with my best friend's family in their rental on LBI. The house was located a little before Fantasy Island in the touristy area of Beach Haven. We spent every night wandering the stores, amusements and snack shops looking for something to do and other kids at that awkward age. Many of these nights ended with getting a bite to eat at the CHEGG which was always packed with people of all ages. We would split items from the menu wanting to try a little bit of everything and not really having any money to our names. I now spend my summers in LBI at my family's own home which allows me to frequent the CHEGG often. At the CHEGG I most often order something breakfasty or something fried. The pancakes are light and flavorful and come loaded with the toppings of your choice which in my case are usually chocolate chips and strawberries. I love their nachos (ordered with no pump cheese). This is the biggest serving of nachos I have ever seen with generous portions of each ingredient. The quality of the chicken is outstanding with big chunks of white meat. Most recently, I ordered the New England clam chowder for the first time. For an island with a very competitive chowder scene, I thought theirs was better than many other "award winners' I have tried. I actually don't eat buffalo wings but I still love everything else on the menu that I have tried. The atmosphere, clients and staff are all quirky. Its a great place to watch dysfunctional families on vacations, teens socializing and young adults sobering up which progresses in this order as the night goes on. As an added bonus, they also have great mints at the cash register, chocolate mint with crunchy colored coating in packs of two.

Listen very carefully: Don't ever eat the ludicrous wings. Ever. I love spicy food, but the ludicrous wings ruined my night. After I ate one, it took me about 15 minutes to gather my composure and eat the rest of my dinner (which was really good, by the way; I had a chicken sandwich). The wings here are really tasty and big. Prices are low and it's a great place to come with a group/family. I'm looking forward to heading back this summer so I can try something that doesn't make me feel like I swallowed a comet.

Outstanding service. Waiting for a table is unavoidable, but it's worth it. Great selection of food at an ok price. The booths could use some cushions on their hard wood benches but otherwise the environment is enjoyable. My son loved his honey tinged beestinger chicken fingers and I agree, they were delicious. I got the dragon burger which wasn't cooked to my requested medium, but it was a good burger despite that small complaint. Slider sampler was good for trying three different types of unique sandwiches; the bison burger, crabcake with wasabi, and a chicken finger with zapped sauce.

Great place for a quick bite to eat!! It's open 24 hours which is great after a night on the town and the food is really good. The staff are so friendly. There menu is full of great choices and they have so many choices of wing sauces. Great atmosphere to!!!

Often a long wait, but it is worth it. Love going late at night with my friends, always a great spot to grab a bite.

Oh where to begin... It's like a fairy tale with a very random happy ending that will forever be chiseled in my brain under "memory". I have never been here and my boyfriend and his best friend raved about this place. I originally thought it was a bar but no, it was something better... it was... FOOD! Sweet, Sweet food on a Friday night or...early a.m...Cheggs is short for Chicken or the Egg (duh!) and seeing the establishments name made me chuckle. We were greeted by friendly staff and it seemed as if everyone knew each other. The interior is bright with color and the staff is friendly sporting smiles and checking up on you ever 10 minutes or so. Keep in mind, the place was busy so seeing waiters and waitresses work together and communicate was pretty nice (we don't really get that in NYC). We ordered Fried Broccoli for the appetizer which was ORGASMICALLY AMAZING! I have never had friend broccoli and I think I may attempt this in my own kitchen. As an entree I had a chicken sammich (forgot the actual name of it) and it consisted of grilled chicken, portabello mushroom, tomato, lettuce, and something else with spicy mayo. The spicy mayo wasn't noticeable at all, which was GREAT! I typically do not like my sammiches to be smothered with sauces... I think it defeats the purpose of tasting the actual food. Anywhoots... The sammich was also delightful! Service and food is great! What made this experience even more epic is that two times in a row, we had 5 seconds of a blackout (due to a storm) which was pretty awesome! The even better part? No one was upset! Of course the staff of the establishment became a bit nervous but it seemed like no one cared. I sure as hell didn't! The even more epic part that has nothing to do with the establishment? I got to sprint in knee deep water (because of the thunderstorm and flooding) to the car after a delightful meal. Can't wait to come back again!!!!!!

I was worried that this place would be an "overhyped" experience and I'd leave thinking it shoulda been much more... Luckily, it wasn't. It was quite satisfying. Friend and I split beesting wings (both original & naked) and a shroomwich (portobella mushroom sandwich). Service was great, atmosphere was cozy. It was a BYOB so we got to enjoy our Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ales. Those original beesting wings ... delicious!

The chicken & egg breakfast sandwich was really good. Try the Santos sauce. My girlfriend got peanut-butter banana pancakes which were very good too. You can get a free fake tattoo if you ask nicely!

My boyfriend had been raving about these wings for a while now. He and his friends used to drive down frequently - mainly just to eat here! We ordered beesting (breaded), original. mediyummm (breaded), jamaican jerk. The beesting & mediyummm were definitely the best sauces. Oh! Don't forget to order sides of their sweet potato fries and onion rings - delish!

Food is always good. and service is above average (except for one night when we came in around 10:30 p.m. Everyone we came in contact with kind of sucked). The menu is creative and the atmosphere is fun. Be prepared for at least a half hour wait no matter what time of the day you go, and be prepared to meet every 15 year old on the island if you go between 9 p.m. and midnight.

I have been going to the Chegg for over 20 years - during that time the owners have consistently improved the food and the experience (new location, updated menu, bottled sauces, etc...) Pretty simply put, if you are looking for a great, fun, casual place to enjoy good food with friends and/or family, the Chegg is one of the top places on the island The highlight may be the wings (love them - breaded, killer bee sting or Santos sauce), but if you do not try other things on the menu you are missing out. Breakfast is tremendous - I like a nice veggie egg-white omelet and their fruit plate is top notch. A word to you veggies out there - my daughter is one and she loves the chegg. The veggie wings are almost as good as the real ones, and there are so many other options (salads, wraps, etc...) So, don't be put off by the wait during busy times (we shop while we wait, or you can also do take out which we do when we know it is busy) - it is well worth it and I guarantee you will go back for more - enjoy!

Wings should have a university to go to and learn how to be a proper wing. That university is on Long Beach Island. The many professors hired would include Master Honey BBQ and Sir Ima Buffalo. Regular field trips shouild be extended to the wings so that they could never forget where they came from and count their blessings that they ended up in this place! A place where they can be adored, savored, yes even revered. A friend of mine ALWAYS caters with them because they are friendly and reliable and they never ask the question of what came first. Here, they know that the customer comes first and I for one, appreciate it!

I wanted to go here because i saw it on Man Vs. Food. The Wings are HUGE, I could not eat 12, they filled up the plate and like I said before are HUGE. I had to try the Santos sauce and it was tasty with a little bit of heat but not too much. I want to go back again, they only draw back is it expensive for wings, but they are huge, and wort it

I go for 1 item.... WINGS. The best around on LBI. Meaty, crispy and plenty of sauce. If you are a wing fan you need to make this a regular stop. Plenty of different sauce choices. The only downfall is the restaurant closes after labor day for the winter.

I come to LBI once a year with some old college friends. We ALWAYS stop at The Chegg before parting ways. The atmosphere, the staff and the food are all perfect. The portions are large and tasty and he staff is always super friendly. Definitely recommend waiting for this treasure!

Killer Beesting Wings (breaded) - I LOVE YOU! I live in California and crave these wings. I even added them to the appetizer menu at my wedding reception on LBI! Long lines - yes Diner atmosphere - yes But, I will wait anytime for those amazing wings. Dear Chegg - I hope to see you over the summer..... I miss you.....

If you are lucky enough to get into this place, just call yourself lucky. If you think you are going to just stroll in and put your name on a list, you are mistaken as wait times for this popular place could reach 2 hours. Maybe the hype is the place being featured on Man vs Food or that the menu is an array of large crazy conconction breakfast, lunch and dinner specials or that the place is open 24 hours and smack in the middle of Beach Haven on the main strip, but the food is just so-so here. The service is friendly and fast and they do their best to accommodate the crowds trying to get into the place, waiting outside like hungry dogs, but not sure what all the hype is about. This is your typical greasy spoon diner /Denny's/Bob Evans/Cracker Barrel with a select few weird creations (wrap loaded with fries, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers and boneless wings drizzled with blu cheese) that make it stand out just a little bit. Personally I think it was more hype than anything else seeing the food is nothing to go tell all your friends about. Still the place does have a serious draw and is one of the few places that serves breakfast all day long.

I don't think you could ask for a better place for a meal on LBI. Exceptional breakfast menu, amazing wings with so many sauces to choose from that you can add to any menu item and you can't forget the fat chegg. Chicken or the Egg (aka CHEGG) is a favorite among family and friends and has become a place full of memories rather than just a restaurant. Make sure you check out CHEGG while your on the island, you'll regret it if you don't. Oh, did I mention they're open 24/7 in season?!

I can't buy into the Chicken or the Egg hype. Every single time I've driven by here there are loads of people standing outside waiting to get a table. And for what? mediocre food at best. Just because you saw it on the Food Network or Man vs. Food, it does not mean that it is the greatest thing ever!!!

Man I wish they were open all year.. L-O-V-E this place!!..Everything is really good here.. The wings are huge and far-and-away the best anywhere in the area.. The prices are excellent given the quality and portions. The only problem is that they are ALWAYS so crowded (Absolutely for great reason). Full of summer home tourists.. Staff is super-friendly and helpful..Unfortunately only open from May to October.. I wait impatiently all winter for May to come around again! It is worth braving the ridiculously crowded LBI to go here!

We drove an hour an a half to see what the talk was about. Now that I've completed my meal I wish we would've saved myself the trip! I tried the "jumbo wings" with their bar-be-whew sauce and I was left wondering where the chicken was! The breading is what makes the wings so jumbo, not the chicken. The sauce was just OK; a 2.5 out of 5. I ordered a vanilla milkshake which didn't come out until well after my meal and when our waiter asked how everything came out I had to remind him that I ordered a milkshake and then he went to get it. I'm a huge milkshake fan and this milkshake from Chegg was less than average (2.5 out of 5) and it got unusually warm right away so i wasn't able to finish it. The milkshake from Steak n Shake DESTROYS this one! I ordered a buffalo chickwich which ended up being a fail! Ill give the sandwich a 1 out of 5 because it was not served fresh at all and was hard instead of tender and juicy. It was like they had it sitting in the back and threw it in the microwave before serving but it wasn't even that warm at all. The best part of my meal were the fries but even those were a flop because I ordered them loaded but there was hardly any cheese or bacon on it. We ended the meal with the banana fosters cheesecake bites. The presentation was not great but the taste itself was better than my meal, which doesn't say much since my meal sucked; i give it a 2.5. Overall, the service sucked, my meal sucked and I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. How are you going to be a chicken spot and your chicken sandwich sucks? To Chegg or not to Chegg... maybe if you're drunk. On my LONG way back home..totally disappointed!!

WINGS WINGS WINGS @ The Chegg!!! No one in Jersey beats their wings. Sober or well....ya know. They have 10 levels of hotness, I think. It's ridiculous. The funny thing, is that they only have one bathroom per each gender. You'd think with the spicy levels the wings go up to, they'd have added more bathrooms. It's also really good for brunch and everything else. DO EEEET! Can't get enough of this place when we have our shorehouse.

Tastey breakfast, a bit epensive but it seems for lbi prices its fine. The pancakes were very good, i also ordered a side - the biscuit but that was not very good at all.

after a bunch of times in lbi in the last few years we finally decided to brave the hour long waits and see what the fuss was all about...and we came out pretty disappointed. chegg is basically a hipsterish tourist trap with pricier but less than average diner quality food. the waiter we had was nice enough and got us started pretty quickly. my fiancé ordered the chicken nachos which were pretty dry, and incredibly devoid of any sign of chicken. I think Campbell's chicken soup has more chicken in it. but they sure heaped the jalapenos on and must have given her at least a half a bag of chips with a 'shot glass' full of salsa and sour cream. an odd ratio. the fries were good but the crabby fries description is very misleading. there is no crab on it but old bay seasoning and slathered with a really weird tasting white imitation cheese sauce. maybe we should of asked but we had thought it would have imitation crab meat on it. old bay fries would have been an ultimately better description. I ordered the fish and chips thinking 'we are at the shore why seafood of some sort would be a novel idea'. wrong. 3 bland tasting most likely frozen fish 'filets' about an inch or so thin like the Gorton's ones and a mound of regular fries, not even steak fries. I guess I should have tried the wings that they are 'known' for or a breakfast meal...or even the chicken and waffles.. because what we ended up with was so not really worth the money. I really don't know why this place is so packed to the gills like this..There are so many better places to eat. to answer the age old question which came first the chicken or the egg? ..i don't know for sure ..but what I do know i doubt ill be coming here again anytime soon. sorry guys.

Located right down the street from our LBI house, great location :-) After watching the episode of Man v. Food that was filmed here this summer we had to get some hot wings. You would never guess the size of the restaurant until go inside. It's much larger and nicer than it appears from the outside. The wait staff is attentive and friendly and the food is delicious. The fact that it's open 24 hours a day is a huge bonus. If you've passed by and have yet to venture inside, do it and do it now.

Love the prime rib and the wings. They also have a good early bird special that's very reasonable--lots of items to choose from. Gave it 4 stars because it's very tight in there. But I can't visit LBI without coming to the Chegg :)

Tuesday night is "wing night" Great place, friendly service and great wings. I could have easily gotten a hotter sauce than the one I ordered. We all decided to order 5 Ludicris wings for fun... talk about HOT! that was obviously toooo hot! I could barely get through one. Overall it was a great time!!!

As a young child, I dreamt of owning the perfect toy car. As I grew older, my passion slowly turned into the form of food. And more specifically, finger foods...wings. The chicken or the egg will make a grown man's...or woman's dreams come true. The wings are absolutely...to die for here. Truly perfect. I've come to this location since 2005 with some of my closest friends. And most recently, I was able to bring the person I adore the most, to "wing heaven." We ordered 24 wings, half breaded...half unbreaded, with a side of sweet potato fries and onion rings... a simply, yet divine combo. Among the wings: Garlic Spice Flavor - Savory with a little kick... a taste that will keep making you come back for more...Pringle says it best, once you pop one...you can't stop. Jamaican Jerk - Spicy and appetizing. Beesting - My cutie's and also my favorite seasoning, the flavor on these wings is absolutely exquisite with every bite. Hot - A satisfying complement to the aforementioned marinades. The sweet potato fries were delish, and got the approval of my girlfriend...who is notoriously a tough critic on her favorite foods, specifically sweet potato fries :) The onion rings were fried exquisitely and melted in your mouth with each bite. I highly recommend anyone within driving distance...or even flying distance to try this spot at least once. 5+ stars!

CHEGG IS AWESOME but be warned that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner this place is packed and expect a wait. Was able to go here late night, I was not disappointed and didn't wait for a table. The service is fantastic, quick, and the servers care. The atmosphere late night is really good as the music selection is tremendous and everybody who is there sings with the music. GREAT TIME. The buffalo fries are really good. They also have a huge list of sauces that can be overwhelming but would love to try them as each one looks great. I tried the Jamaican jerk for my fries and it was great. I saw another party order the wings, they looked great and keep hearing from other people that the wings here are amazing. Saw another person order a rack of ribs and they looked awesome. This is a really fun place to eat and hang out at and if you are in the area you HAVE to stop in at Chegg! If you don't you are missing out big time.

I have to thank my little brother for introducing our family to the Chicken or the Egg 12 years ago. As a kid he saw the name and thought it was cool. We gave in to his whims and have been hooked ever since. It's a great place for breakfast and lunch. They also have THE BEST chicken wings on earth (I always get the breaded honey BBQ). Seriously, I didn't even like chicken wings until I had them at the Chegg.

The chicken or the egg is outstanding! My family and I always come here when we are in LBI. Everything we've had here is amazing. Been here for breakfast and dinner. For breakfast i got the Cinnamon Bun waffles which were INCREDIBLE. The service is awesome and the waiters are efficient, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. I highly recommend The Chicken or the Egg. Anyone who says this resterant is bad doesn't have taste buds and is blind, deaf and mute.

We stop by Chicken or the Egg every time we are on LBI. This last time we took my retired parents and my four year old. Everyone loved it. We went for an early dinner, around 5:00, and were able to order off of the Early Bird dinner menu. The food was not only delicious, but the quantity was huge and the price was cheap! Our waiter was really helpful and happy to give us our desserts in to-go containers, the desserts that came with our dinner specials! My mom and I both ordered turkey dinners, that included two sides, soup or salad, a drink and dessert. We were amazed at the nice thick slices of tasty turkey. My dad had hot roast beef and loved it. My son thinks that Cheeg has the best chicken fingers and fries. This is a fun family restaurant that won't break your budget on LBI. If you plan to go, there always seems to be a wait here after 6:00pm, so plan accordingly.

These are and always will be the best wings I ever had. The original (breaded) buffalo wings with "mediyum" sauce are the most amazing, delicious wings I have EVER tasted. I really don't think another wing will ever come close.

We went for breakfast a few times and had some filling, nicely sized portions. I got the porkalator on a hoagie that was extremely tasty. I was a bit underwhelmed with the home fried potatoes as they were pretty bland (there was an "old bay" type seasoning on a few bits but wasn't entirely coated properly). Coffee is good and the service is extremely sharp. I'm looking forward to going back for the wings!

  • Cooper A.

I doubt that any of the food we were served was fresh -- it tasted more like frozen food that was being passed off as fresh - the pancakes I swear came straight out of the Kellogg's frozen pancake box and the breakfast potatoes tasted like they came from a frozen bag -- and the coffee, I'm sorry, is this left over from last night because it tastes like they poured hot water over my shoes! My friend ordered the Jamaican Jerk wings -- we even asked when they were served that they were the Jamaican Jerk wings. The unknowledgeable waiter said yes. But they looked and tasted just like Buffalo. Me think these are not Jamaican Jerk and if they are, they're the worst I've ever eaten. The staff is lazy and unaccommodating - only doing the bare basics of serving and giving us the check. Save your money and make your own breakfast -- How this overrated restaurant with boring, overpriced, lackluster food has a 4 star rating is beyond me. The question shouldn't be The Chicken or the Egg, but, Why Would Anyone Eat Here.

Really enjoyed food. No real advice on when to get there, it is open 24 hrs IN SEASON. Enjoyed the wings which you can get breaded or non-breaded. I recommend basket fries between two to three people, burgers, steak 'n cheeses, and my friend had a jerk chicken sandwich which was very good. My visit went very well, place is very busy, but food q d people are nice and are going to try to get your business n

The wings were pretty pricey, probably because they were labled as jumbo, which they were NOT; however, the flavor that we had was really delicious. We also had a cheesesteak that was pretty mediocre. Overall experience was reasonable, no real reason to either avoid it or make a special effort to go there. Nothing special. Afterwards, I wished we would have went somewhere else with less gimmicks and better food.

Normally one of the better cheap fooderies on LBI, at 11pm this Saturday night, they waaaay missed the mark. I ordered breakfast. My over easy eggs were over cooked, the bacon burned, and potatoes re-fried numerous times. The best part of the meal was the Diet Rite cola (so basically a $12 soda). This place is normally good, but since it's been hit or miss over the past few years, I've given them 2 stars hoping they care enough to step up their game. There's something going on with restaurants on LBI this 4th of July week--although not as busy as they should be, the food has really been second rate at almost every place I've eaten. It's really a disappointment considering how much this vacation is costing...
